Car registration confused.

Bit confused here, saw this yank tank in London the other day, it's a Mercury.

On the DVLA data base it says "Date of registration 03 Aug 15", which tallies with an older motor being imported.

But the plate is MCY 527C, (MCY ties in nicely with Mercury), "C" reg is 1965, DVLA says date of manufacture 68.

So manufactured in 68, registered in UK 15 with a 65 plate, any ideas, just curious.

As it ties in with the Mercury bit it's presumably a personalised plate... My Caterham would be on a 54 plate (early 2005 car) but is showing a T registration.

How does one get something that has rolled to the far reaches of the boot? You'd surely have to climb in.

Age related plate on recently imported car.

You can put a number plate on a car which pre dates the cars age, but not one which makes it look newer. Hence the 1965 number on a 1968 car.

If you Google the reg it comes up as a 65 Park Lane, if you Google 68 Park Lane it's not that car? DVLA cockup?

Google 1968 Mercury Park Lane, you get this;


Whereas a 1965 looks like the pic you posted.

Yeah. Someone at DVLA has mis-keyed the year of the car. It is a 1965 Mercury and they have (correctly) given it a 1965 plate.

Be even more confusing if the DVLA had miskeyed it as, say, '63. I suppose their wonderful computer sytems might have picked it up. Or not.

None the wiser, Askmid says KC Mercury, (whatever that is), who mentioned a Park Lane, not sure what you mean by Google the reg, how did you do that.

Hello All, it is definitely a 1965 Mercury Park Lane Breezeway. What makes you think it was registered in 1968, as every model year had slight differences?

Also, how do you know when the vehicle was first registered in this country?

Apologies for replying on this resurrected thread. The boot isn't quite as spacious as it looks from the outside.

In reply to your previous post, the D.V.L.A. website just gives the month and and year of registration. I am just curious as to how you know the day as well?
