Hi all, I am looking for some guidance as to which oil to use as a top up between services, should the need arise for my 2006 V8V.

Handbook says Castrol Formula RS 10W-60 Oil, which I understand has been discontinued.

Last service at AM they used Castrol Edge Sports Professional 10w/60, which I understand is unique to AM (although I assume only to protect their margins......).

Castrol website suggests Castrol Edge 10W-60 Oil.

Any thoughts/views, please?

Many thanks,

Andrew M.

If you're sticking with dealership-provided fluids, the dealership will sell you whatever oil they're currently using. Castrol's Edge line has been reformulated and rebranded several times since it was first introduced (I think as the original "TWS", which just stands for "ten w sixty (10w60)").

You can use any high-quality 10w60 you want that meets API SL/CF and ACEA A3/B3/B4 requirements if you're open oils other than those sold by your dealership. I'm running Motul in my car.

I think it might be complete nonsense, but I just feel that I should top-up with identical oil.

Originally my dealer was using Castrol Edge, but last time filled with Mobil 1.
Consequently, I now have two containers of oil for top-up. The engine though, has not yet needed to have oil added.

Its not nonsense; if you are not changing oil yourself then ask the garage what they have used and top up with that. With 10K miles between services usually 1-2L will suffice and be "normal"

....for 3k miles a year you may get away without a top up at all
