Looking to tidy up the wife's Chim and could do with getting some idea on ballpark costs so we can see how it fits into our budget. Have very little free time for the foreseeable future so will have to pay someone who knows what they're doing (plus I'll only make a mess of it paperbag)

Wish list (in order of priority) is:

  • New hood fitted/targa panel re-covered
  • New carpet set fitted
  • Renovate/re-connolise seats or re-cover (depending on cost)
  • New veneer for dash and radio panel fitted
I've done some digging around and have in mind the carpets should be around £900 all in and renovating the seats will be about £170. Does this sound about right? A new mohair hood looks to be about £400 to buy but no idea on how much work is involved in fitting. We'd also need the targa panel recovering.

Would be grateful if anyone can give some likely price ranges for this work and recommendations. Don't necessarily have to get it all done in the same place but don't have the time to be travelling all over the place getting bits done here, there and everywhere! smile

Have a look on the Central TVR website, all prices are given for the work that your looking at, I've no idea if they are the cheapest, but they will give you an idea on cost

I have been quoted £750 for the complete roof job by Classic Car Services in Leicester - new folding section with smaller window and recover targa, fully fitted inc VAT. They do have a good reputation and mine is booked in for July.

They also do all aspects of trimming and carpets, and quoted approx £850 for carpets.

You don't want the smaller window. It restricts interior light; over the shoulder view at junctions; and the fabric shows fold marks (like the plastic does), but you can't just change the rear screen at a later date to freshen the roof appearance, you have to change the whole hood.

Interesting - that is the first negative comment I have had about the smaller window despite asking around about it.

I can understand the reduced visibility aspect. When the rain eases up I might stick some paper over the edges of my rear screen and for a drive.

My main aim for the smaller window was to make folding the roof down easier - does it actually help?

Can I ask who supplied and fitted the hood, and how much please?

TVRinBFG (posted above) otherwise known as TVR Mads in Bradford does the dash.

Had my roof, rear section and targa recovered for #350.00 - had to go to Swansea to have it done, still on the list is carpets and dash.

Pic of hood.

If I was doing mine I'd be looking at options to create a zip out rear screen which I don't believe anyone has yet done. Would resolve all the problems of visibility and creasing/damage, but appreciate it may create other issues with keeping the water out.
You could then have options to install a mesh/perspex etc for different occasions.

Hi Fran

Jack Smith Motor Trimmers in Swansea - did a very good price, he makes a new hood using the old as a template.

I took the old hood off as was having the car painted, and then drove over on a nice day and he fitted the new one while I waited. His place is a bit of a back street so did not fancy leaving the car, but he is a nice guy and does a very good job for the money.

If you were looking to do the same, I do still have the original hood which could be used as a pattern if you need it.

That would be fantastic -I'm about to get a Chimaera with no hood/roof so that would be useful!

Just picking up on this, there appear to be 2 Dave the trimmers...

One at .co.uk http://www.davethetrimmer.co.uk/contact-us.html (Camberley based)

And one at : http://www.davethetrimmer.com/ (Bedford based)

Which one are you refering to/has anyone used the Camberley based 'Dave'?
