I'm in the process of setting up a website and in this I need images of pretty much every car make and model sold in the UK.

I understand CAP Automotive supply to quite a few companies with the same style picture (angle and plain background etc). Does anyone know of anywhere else to get these images- Downloading from google images isn't an option due to legal copyright etc.

Thanks

There are lots of "Photo stock" image sites which I presume would have most cars on. Unfortunately they do charge for them. Google istockphoto or such like. not sure about free ones.

Thanks - I looked at those sites but they tend to have the cars at many different angles/backgrounds aswell as the cost per image being unviable when buying 100s

I would expect CAP took those photos themselves, if they're so common in angle etc. Have you asked them if they'll supply you, too?

Yes I have and they're coming back to back to me on pricing, I was just wondering if there anyone else who did a similar thing otherwise its monopoly pricing in the market!

Just because there's only one supplier does not make it a monopoly.

All you need to do is arrange to borrow new cars from each manufacturer, and take photos of them in your studio, and - bingo - you're a competitor.
A monopoly only applies if there cannot be any competition, because something prevents it.

This is no easy task and I used to work for Auto Trader. Think we used CAP images onsite. Your challenge is getting each yr/Mk variant facelift not just 1 Ford Focus and so on.

Try these guys http://www.magiccarpics.co.uk/ but I think you are going to struggle for consistency e.g. some on white some with background

Not sure if you need actual photos or if the outline is acceptable? For vinyl cutting I have 'Impact Vehicle Outlines', pretty much every car outline required including vans/commercials.

Stick 'impact vehicle outlines' into Google images search and you can see they type of image that they supply, sides/front/rear/plan in several formats plus an actual ring bound 'book', all for £129(+vat) - or older versions do come up on Ebay.

I am not sure if there are any copyright issues if you use them for public use on a website, but I am sure that Impact can/will advise?

Also, you'll find lots of images of the premium models (top of the range Mondeo for example) but the budget versions are far harder to find images of. It can be surprisingly difficult.
