Merc recommendations after service / SRS warning light reset

Replace all tyres - 4mm tread left
Rear pads - Approx 70% left
Any thoughts on if the tyres really need replacing yet (bearing in mind it might not sell straight away so I carry on using it)? What mm would you replace if not? And the same with the pads, is it worth squeezing out another 1000-3000 miles?
The legal min is 1.6mm so plenty of life left, no point in changing.Rear pads - Approx 70% left

SRS light - Now the SRS had just come on when I took it in for the MOT/Service. The first MOT failed due to the SRS light (fair enough) they then reset the light and it passed. After resetting the light they were unable to recreate the issue. Is it acceptable for them to reset a light to pass an MOT? Particularly as this light then disables the passenger airbag and I explained that I only had a weeks of warranty left and that obviously anything that can be replaced under warranty I would like to have been done. Within 15 miles the SRS light came on again. When I took it to the an independent they were able to diagnose and fix the sensor in the seat causing the problem within 5 hrs at cost of £300 as it is now out of warranty. Any thoughts on if they should have just reset the light to pass the MOT and if I should chase them for the £300?
What car is it? My 2008 C350 went in 2 weeks ago to Merc Dealership for a safety recall to replace the SRS Control unit (airbag control unit). Maybe yours comes under the same recall hence why the light came on?aero93 said:
Anyone?
The questions are a bit odd, to be honest. Why would you change tyres at 4mm? Even Mercedes only recommend 3mm and, as someone else stated the limit is 1.6mm.
70% left brake pads - is that a typo and you mean 70% worn? Even if there's only 30% left, rear pads should last a long time.
The SRS fault - why didn't you take it back to dealer and tell them it was still faulty from when first reported during warranty?

Mercedes are the ones that recommended at 4/5mm.. I don't know what is usual or if they were trying it on.Why would you change tyres at 4mm? Even Mercedes only recommend 3mm and, as someone else stated the limit is 1.6mm.

Yes sorry they are 70% worn, I will try and amend original post. Again no idea how far that 30% would take me, 1000 miles or 10,000

Mercedes policy is to tell you when your tyres are 5mm or less. As new tyres are around 7mm and legal limit is 1.6mm so 4mm is nicely worn in.Yes sorry they are 70% worn, I will try and amend original post. Again no idea how far that 30% would take me, 1000 miles or 10,000

It is a 2010 E350.. I assume (probably wrongly) Mercedes would have checked that..Edited by aero93 on Thursday 16th June 19:10

They won't change them on Mercedes Approved Used unless under 3mmaero93 said:

Well, if 30% only lasted another 1000 miles then that implies a lifetime of around 3000 miles from new - which is somewhat unfeasible. And the 70% is likely only a guess. I'd take a dealer mechanic's 70% to mean a bit more than half-worn.Sheepshanks said:

So finger in the air guess? - How many miles would the last 30% last? I only bought the car a couple of months back so no idea when the pads were initially replaced and the amount of miles covered in that 70%.aero93 said:

Mine were looking a bit iffy at 85K miles so I had them changed as the fronts were being done anyway. That was the first time the rears had been changed. Mind you, I pretty well only do long steady motorway runs.It depends on your type of use, but I'd be thinking in terms of 10K miles of average use.
