NIP through the post. 72mph in a 60 limit. A perfectly safe speed for the conditions. I saw the van, checked speedo (indicated 67) and braked but evidently id already been pinged. At the time I figured they might have gotten me, but it looked like they were been doing traffic travelling in the other direction.

Token can i get out of it question -
The section of road on which I was nabbed is a steepish downhill with a curve to it. Seeing as the police van was at the bottom of the hill I assume it tracked me once as I came into view, and again as I got nearer the bottom of the hill. Given that the road wasnt going in a straight line how can their speed reading be accurate? Terribly explained, so heres a picture...

Suppose im travelling at 900 mph between point A and B. BiB (mr dot)reads distance away as 300m at point A. Then I reach point B where he reads distance again, but im still pretty much 300m away from BiB, because im not travelling towards or away from BiB.

so hes got 0 metres given by the difference in distances in say 5 seconds. Result? Not moving.

So how can the reading taken be accurate?

just to add - current intended course of action is to swear lots and hand over cash for no good reason. and recieve points in return.

AND I HAVE TO PAY FOR POSTING THE BLOODY THING BACK!!!!

err. What happens if i dont stick a stamp on it

usual.......

was it 1st class/registered delivery?
are the details correct?
was it SENT within 14 days (if you're the registered keeper only)
Ask to see the video (happy if nothing to hide)
check that the road signs are in order NOW. (probably not much chance here as it was an NSL)

Get all this checked, then reply to them (registered post) about 23 days in (is it still 28 days to reply?)
You can check on the net the exact time that the parcel was signed for and print it off.

Pay up, and vote Conservative next time!

Yep. all is in order, I was speeding - not by the amount they said I was, and as you can see I have my doubts about the accuracy of the reading I did get.

On the other hand, I can take it in lieu of the many times I have been speeding and not got caught.

Time to get over to pepipoo.... Pinging you at that distance without error would be tricky. There could well be a reflection of any number of things that could give a false reading.

Check out the thread on here about laser slippage. If the gun moves across your car it could be enough of an error to get your speed below the limit.

Last time I was over there, no one who had uesd the PACE defence had been succesfully prosecuted! There are some real experts over there who will give you good advice.

Lesson 1: If you see a van, hit the brakes!!

If something goes into the back of you then they shouldn't have been following too closely, I have learnt to whack that pedal down HARD FIRST, and ask questions later!! Just a self-defence reflex now (and stops tailgating ).

It doesn't sound like they can prove anything (given your diagram) and in court with a few useful photos to back you up it looks like court is the cheapest and easiest option... don't rush into helping them get you next time.

That picture above was just a representation to make my point. Actual stretch of road is a shallowish curve - put it this way, its safe to take in a renault 5 at 70.

I dont believe for a second that the reading they took is accurate, but I do believe that even with the factors I mention it could be put beyond reasonable doubt that I was speeding.

As a random aside in the past year ive seen 2 cars destroyed in accidents at the location where the BiB was, typically people coming down the hill too fast and its a spot where another road joins and the people joining rarely look properly. Its a sensible spot to have a speed camera.

Go to the forums - look in the FAQ for PACE.

I'd suggest you might want someone qualified in law to help you out

Start Here

Then post what is required, see "Read this first" and then prepare to get overwhelmed by questions help and advice. It does seem that the PACE letter has not been tested in court yet.

cheers

But if you don't vote....you can't complain about them..

In addition, people have died for the right to a vote...and some people throw theirs away...

A change of government is always a good thing..

NOOOO You might as well vote these bastards back in again as do that. Voting tory is the only sensible thing to get rid of 'em.

Do you really want to live in the old USSR?
