2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara DDIS hissing and chattering

Any body have any experience with this engine, which I believe is the Renault 1.9 DCI.

It is making a hissing noise on idle, which gets louder as the revs rise and is still there when off the power and rolling in gear. The only time it isn't there is when there is very little 'throttle' input.

It also turns to a chatter under load at around 3.5k rpm. Performance seems unaffected and no excess smoke visible.

Noise seems to be coming from the vicinity of the turbo! Going to have a feel around the intercooler pipework once it has cooled down.

Any ideas?

Just incase this gets searched in the future. It was the DPF, one of the hoses to it had deteriorated and caused premature failure from what I can gather.

Purely in the interest of people searching for this issue in the future.

The pressure hoses for the DPF were replaced and the issue was solved without doing anything to the DPF. EML is yet to return and some lost performance has returned!
