PCM Infotainment and iPod interface

Just picked up my new 718 :-) with the latest infotainment.
I use an old iPod Classic (5th Gen Video) for all my music - when I plug this is into the USB port it is found but then it says the source cannot be read.
This iPod worked in my 981 PCM, with BMW, Ford and Audi
Is there something simple I am missing for the latest version of the PCM?
