Crikey! I'm a Snob....
Discussion
I love the Tudor BB Bronze, my AD gets 3 in on Monday and I can get one at a discount. But, and it's a bit of a self-realisation moment: I worry about it not being a Rolex. That's pretty poor show, eh? I've had lots of nice watches and never bothered about 'branding', but I'm having these thoughts and I don't like it.
Fabulous piece, off the wall and I've got a hang-up. WTF?
Any of you feel the same, or do you just wear what you actually like? Feel like I'm baring my 'arris here.

You can`t unlike what you instinctively like!
You have to question how much you are likely to love it in the future or whether it`s a bit of a novelty that`s all!
I think one of those on a Bulang and Sons Sienna leather NATO would look great and even better as the bronze ages
For me Tudors are like Caymans, the owners are always being made to justify how good they are or why they like it or is it because they can`t afford the blah blah blah!(but it`s not a real Porsche / it`s not a Rolex)
Like what you like, buy what you want, relax and enjoy it!

That is a stunning piece on the aged leather strap.
I have a Seamaster Pro and a B&R BR01-92, neither are the last word in expensive watches but a decent 4-figure sum each. However, I also have a limited-edition "brass" Magrette Regattare, which cost me around £500, and I love it. Nobody much knows what it is, so they probably assume it's "just a cheap watch" but that doesn't stop me wearing it.
If you like the Tudor, buy it. Easier said than done but it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

I've a red tudor and a rolex.
I bought the rolex because the tudor wasnt a rolex.
Take from that what you will.
I'm gonna get the Tudor. Just hate that I seem to have become a brand snob and I've always had this love/hate thing with Rolex anyway. I hate that, although they are really good watches, they keep value better than other brands almost exclusively due to market/marketing forces. Look at JLC and all of the other high quality brands which are arguably better than Rolex in almost every way...I bought the rolex because the tudor wasnt a rolex.
Take from that what you will.

Good view, and to be honest I prefer the Cayman to the 911, but would I buy one? You have to question how much you are likely to love it in the future or whether it`s a bit of a novelty that`s all!

Time for a real re-calibration!
Still not daft enough to fall for the Nautilus 'thing' though...

Do you really like watches, or just having expensive things to show off.
If you really liked watches, I can't see why you'd care, or it would ever matter.
That's the exact dilemma! I love watches, doesn't really matter what they are. My heart sinks when I walk into a meeting and I'm surrounded by others with Rolex Divers too. Clonetastic! If you really liked watches, I can't see why you'd care, or it would ever matter.
Suppose the good thing is recognising the issue and being able to make changes, coz I don't see myself that way and it came as a real bolt from the blue.
Usually I don't give two figs for what people think of me.
Just wondered if others felt similar?

See, the contrarian in me would prefer that to a Pam. I have a Seamaster Pro and a B&R BR01-92, neither are the last word in expensive watches but a decent 4-figure sum each. If you are worried about what a watch says about you I think you should consider this - there are an awful lot of people out there (not all) who buy a Rolex because they have no imagination and can`t actually appreciate anything for any reason other than what it costs or in the hope that that other people will know what it costs, If I see someone wearing a nice watch I usually assume that they probably have a few watches and God knows what they might be!

Oddly, if I saw you wearing one of those, I'd think there's a guy that is into watches and has good taste. If I saw you in a rolex I'd probably think you weren't into watches and probably just bought it to show off. Fabulous piece, off the wall and I've got a hang-up. WTF?

Err, yes, you would if you had driven one jshell! Chop in the Cayenne (not at all sure why Porsche went into the SUV market but they seem to be well liked) and get yerself a Cayman S, or even an R if funds permit. On the matter of the watch, I have both Rolex and Tudor and I bought the Tudor purely on a whim as I really liked the look of it! Had it been a TAG I wouldn't have bothered as I have had bad experiences with the TAG make. Tudor makes an excellent watch. Buy it if you like the look. Many many more people will be impressed by the Rolex though, the default choice if you're into branding and want something obvious.
No brand snob is going to be posting photos of a Tudor in front of their Porsche steering wheel badge, If you want to impress other people, the Tudor simply isn't going to cut it.
People buy watches for all sorts of reasons. Only you know which ones are important to you. Maybe that's why having a range of watches is the best idea. Normally you can wear something more subtle and discerning. If you feel you need to let people know you can afford a Rolex, (for some odd reason) then wear that instead.

I don't care about the badge. I'm not a hardcore watch nerd, in that I couldn't tell you all the bits of a mechanical watch and how they work, or the history of major watch brands etc, but I do love a good watch. Although I buy mostly on style than brand/heritage etc. Suppose the good thing is recognising the issue and being able to make changes, coz I don't see myself that way and it came as a real bolt from the blue.

If that watch is a Tudor, Seiko, Panerai, G-shock etc etc, then it doesn't really matter about the badge.

Cayenne is a workhorse dragging family 180 miles up to the Highlands through all weathers and runs year-round winters. only bought it as it was an a cracking deal and so far, chocolate propshaft aside, has been a very reliable load-lugger. Had to avoid anything sporty for just that reason. As an aside, I tried to sit in a Cayman once and couldn't get my legs under the steering wheel. Not sure if they have changed, but 36" inside leg is a bugger for some small 2-seaters - DB9 included!Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
