Power steering rack options

My 1998 Chim power steering rack is showing some signs of wear, there is some play in the steering wheel, which does not seem to be coming from the UJ's. I have spoken to a couple of companies who can refurbish my rack, but not replace the actual rack and pinion parts, and therefore probably not worth doing, as all seals are good. The car / rack has done 115000 miles.

Does anyone know if anyone can replace the rack and pinion?

Has anyone got any feedback on how good the Subaru rack replacement option is?

No mechanical parts available for your rack unfortunately.

I have the scobby rack which is good.

Subaru rack is great. No complaints at all and I run mine with an Astra TRW pump.

Had similar symtoms, turned out to be loose splines on the top part of the steering column. Brian Hosfield of Lawfield Engineering, Bristol Ave, Blackpool can refurbish your rack if need be.

BTW, my TVR PS rack was goosed at 35,000 miles!

Thanks for the reply's, I will have a check on the UJ's but I think the play is in the rack.

Can't check the UJ's at the moment as the car is on a car transporter somewhere between the Swiss Alps and here, I broke it on a Swiss Alp mountain pass last week.
