Oh no, sad news. Why, what bureaucracy?
Love driving the TVR in Belgium, in fact a few of us are heading to Ghent next month

Well still couldn't get it registered in Belgium, they just won't let it in.
So re-registered it in the UK last January, so I thought all was well again.
about a week ago I got a letter from the insurance company that they cancelled my insurance.
They found out I'm not a UK resident and they don't insure foreign drivers.
None of the insurance companies would do so as a matter of fact.

So I couldn't get it in Belgium and couldn't get insurance in the UK. Game over frown

Very sorry to hear that Nils.

Few people seem to realise how lucky we are in the UK to be able to own stupid cars relatively easily.

A couple of years ago I checked how much it would cost to import a £5k Chim to Portugal - a truly unbelievable €20,000 and that included a 50% discount for age.

I presume you're talking import duties etc not insurance here? I thought this was meant to be the United States of Europe... (but hopefully not for much longer biglaugh).
I looked at buying a Cerb from Jersey which had originally been UK registered but was later exported to the CI. The duty due on landing it back here would've been over £3k irked, which ruled it out on sheer principle; UK VAT was paid on it when it was new FFS.

If you get your way I will loose my job, and therefore my home, and I will end up living with my parents.

Thanks for that.

+1 lets hope the for the sensible result.

As for import duties, never really understood why if tax was paid at point of sale then exported, why you were taxed again on import. Some of the figures I've read about are truely shocking. Sure this has nothing to do with being within the EU as it happens in plenty of other non EU countries.....

Hopefully I'll be back soon with a Griff.

I don't wish to hijack Nils' Sad Thread, so I won't say anything other than I know I won't change anyone's mind, the most anyone can do is encourage people to vote.
