What are you guys doing in anticipation of vmax?

I've made some changes to the induction system and today I went to Guglielmi Motorsport in Daventry.

They're Elise specialists and have been racing them for 9 years, as a result they have developed an infamous suspension setup, far, far better than how it leaves the factory.

So I've had the geometry setup, a few components replaced, new SBS carbon pads fitted all round and 5.1 fluid. I told them about vmax coming up and they seemed pretty convinced that the car is quite capable of being the fastest there through the bends. Have driven 125 miles on the new setup and it is totally and utterly different, having sat in the passenger seat while Steve Guglielmi hammered it round a roundabout at speeds i never thought possible I can't wait for vmax now!

You recommend them then Muncher?

I was going to go down to Plans tommorow and have similar things done.

What sort of money are we talking?

Very much so, great bunch of guys, really know their stuff on Elises as they have been racing them since 1996. Their also legendary geo setup is identical to the ones used on their current racing Elises. They let you watch everything they do and talk you through it, real enthusiasts. Put it this way I'll be doing a 280 mile round trip to them to get my car serviced.

A geo setup is £141.

Right, thats that then.

I'll do me discs, pads and fluid (got quoted £790 yesterday by my local stealer ) and run it up to them to do the geo settings.

Hurrah!

What pads are you going for? SBS developed some pads for Guglielmi which they use on their racing Elises, apparently designed to take into account the light weight of the car.

I was there for 5 and a half hours, approx £200 in parts and was only charged £200 odd in labour.

Give them a call and say Paul with the blue VX NA recommended them.

The 1144s are apparently getting tough to get hold of, a couple of weeks wait at most places.

Try http://camskill.co.uk/ they can get them and at a good price if you call them too.

I've just got my new exhaust which should be on in the next few days. New rear tyres on friday. Insurance has just been renewed.
Just got to clean it and brim the tank and we'll be ready.
Roll on the 20th!

I'm preparing for the next Vmax.

My F40 is going to Michelotto in Italy for some serious preparation after the fire!

Should be back with over 550bhp and some reduction in weight.

Mintex are ok for road use but are not that good on track. If you can afford them go for Pagid RS-14 from Eliseparts. A fair bit more expensive but stand up to hard braking much better and will last a lot longer.

Poor from cold though arent they?

I am at a crossroads now.

Someone has mentioned that there is no real gain to be had from drilled/grooved discs on such a light car.

So I may go standard fitment on discs and then its a case of assessing either the 1144's or the RS14's

I think I will start with 1144's and if they display fade at Combe I'll then take the hit on the RS14's

The last set of pads I bought were £4.16, its a bit of a jump!

Guglielmi advised against drilled discs due to the problems caused by tracking, they said the Elise/VX didn't especially need them but if you do, grooved are the way to go.

The SBS pads are a compromise between the Pagids and Mintex.

More hard wearing than the mintex and better performance. Though better from cold than the Pagids and a lot cheaper.
