My lad topped up the coolant system in my Cayman with ready to use screen washer liquid. Only put in a pint at the very most.

Is this going to cause any internal damage or should I attempt to syphon it out before I run the engine????

Where are you planning to dispose of his body?

Cant imagine that will react too well with the coolant....must be easy enough to disconntect the pipe at the bottom of the coolant tank and drain out the bottom....

Some of the chemicals in it might cause corrosion issues, then again they might not.

If it was my car then I would get the coolant drained and flushed out. Paranoia maybe but it won't cost much and is easy to DIY.

Probably has a much lower boiling point than coolant, so boils instead of carrying heat away, degrades oil quickly, catastrophic results.

Drain and refill with new has to be the answer, surely.

agree drain and refill the coolant system. Not worth the risk

Don't you need a vacum fill tool to do the coolant on the boxster/Cayman and an air line to generate the vacum. Thought they were near impossible to do without getting air locks if you don't vacum fill them.

Thanks for the replies.

Is this a DIY job or dealer?

As the engine hasn't been run I was wondering if I could syphon out the offending half pint?

Also wondering what potential damage could be done? It was only a small amount of diluted screen wash!

Doesn't the op have a newish Cayman gts? If so why has the coolant had to be topped up?

Read the OP's post again - I think the screen wash was supposed to be topped up...

Assuming the Cayman has a similar capacity and it really was only a pint that went in that's 0.5L into 30ish. Quite a dilution ratio and probably safe to drive to a garage.

Do all Caymans have the coolant filler point next the oil filler in the boot? If so then how did the son confuse the screen wash & coolant holes?

Surely there's a header tank of some kind and if the engine hasn't been run the 1 litre of stuff he's put in will still be sitting in that tank?

I'd carefully syphon out carefully the header tank, collect the fluid in a glass jar and see what it looks like. If it looks like screen wash I'd then top up with proper coolant and call it a job done!

Leaving a small amount in there is certainly not something I'd worry about.
