Evening all,

Looking for a decent 4 seater 'vert for SWMBO, budget up to about £13k. The golf looks really nice, but obvious the Eos has the metal roof (I assume all the Golf's are power hoods though?) Is there anything to choose between them? Assuming the Eos is based on the Golf 6, does the later Golf offer any improvement?

As she does about 14k a diesel is preferable but I have heard rumours of the 1.6 TDI having some issues. The lack of power is also a concern.

So really, given the above, which is the better car and best engine to seek out? Thanks all.

Firstly, a disclaimer: I haven't driven either.

But I seem to recall reading various problems with leaks affecting the roofs on the Eos. I don't know whether the golf has had similar issues, but I haven't seen anything.

The platform on the mk7 golf is supposed to be a big step forward too.

As for diesel v petrol, at that mileage I would be looking at the 1.4tsi. My dad has a mk7 hatch and it's impressively frugal. A motorway run returns circa 50mpg and he raves about the adaptive cruise control, which I believe is standard on all mk7s.

I would therefore be going for the mk7 1.4tsi.

The golf cab is still the mk6 (which is a heavily revised mk5) and the eos is just a mk5 (again, heavily revised in 2010 IIRC)

Interesting info. Thanks both. Will look at the TSI. Just assumed it would be thirsty in comparison.
