I have been a named driver for several years on my wife's policy. We have just bought another car, whats the best way to get it insured? Not sure if SAGA do a 2nd car policy (they are shut on a sunday) but need to get the car insured tomorrow -Monday.

Which companies do mirroring or which ones will accept our 15 years plus of NCB on my wife's policy.

She has had a company car for 15 years and we just used her policy on our joint (my) car since. Bought a second car to stop putting miles on the original car as it's going to kill the value and starting to put too much wear and tear on it. As its expensive to maintain, the third car is a sensible option.

LV mirrored my S4 policy for the A6, but won't do bike to car, or car to bike.

As per above, LV has mirrored mine (MX5 to 640D) the only conditions on mirroring are no claims within the past 12 months and being over 25...

The three earlier responses confirm my suspicion, that any discount for car number two would be with the existing insurer of car number one.

Ok so it was car number three for me, but I got mirroring of the NCB from the insurer of car number two. I had been with them at least 15 years.

My current insurer will mirror but are expensive.

I wonder if a second company will accept our NCB fom our existing company and set up another policy.

I have max NCB and clean licence.

I thought it was your wife that had the max ncb, and you had none?

I'll second E-Sure. They will mirror your no claims across any policy and give you 10% off if you have a policy with them already as a kind of multi car.

I now have four policies with them and 9 years no claims on all four.

The other way I've found you can do it is with a proper multi car policy from the likes of Admiral, then when that comes up for renewal cancel it and they'll send you no claims for both cars. I did this when I bought a Clio 172, added it to a policy with my Twingo 133 and then after a year hunted round. They essentially game me 6 years no claims on the 172 but I'd only owned it a year so they effectively matched the Twingo.

Why is this in SP&L? Isn't GG a more appropriate home and would probably get more relies too

Sorry but you don't have 9 year NCB you have 5 Years plus in the eyes of an insurer. They dont measure more than 5.

Some do, up to a maximum of 9. Others don't.

That was my understanding of it as well. Many show a maximum of 9 years as I actually have more years I have not claimed on one of my cars.

I've done a second car policy for the mini with Saga who insure my 1st car with them just to get it covered quickly. It always takes ages to find a good quote and I don't like the idea of them all credit searching me. I did it for ease, but I have 20 days left to cancel for a £5 admin fee. It always takes ages to find a good quote and I don't like the idea of them all credit searching me.

I feel I'm being stitched as its costing more £388 with max bonus) for a mini than a 3.4 Boxster S that has about 40% more horses and far higher cost to put back together if bumped.

I'll try Esure when I have a mo.

Thanks chaps, much appreciated, as usual.

Yes but I think you will fine as did I that if you claim you you will go from 9 years to (5 years max actual NCB less 2 Years for claim) then in effect I when from 10 years to 3 due to one minor bump my missus had.

its all another rip off from insurance companies isnt it - I had a ten year old 1.4 polo and a four year old Cayman S and never claimed on insurance since driving from 17 and then being 51 but of course they ask- 'how do you want to spread your NCB?" - eh ? which of course I put most of it on the cayman but then means I dont have much on the old polo so paying a comparatively large premium on.

NCB should be about YOU as a driver in the same way that licence endorsements are could I have said ' oh can you put all the speeding erdorsements on the polo please" - no doest work like that (I dont have any by the way)
It works in favor of the insurer as usual.
