Peugeot 205 GTI 16v Recommission/Rescue

Hi all,
Bit of a background on my little onion wagon, I bought the car when I was 18, and 7 years on after some brilliant highs combined with some laughable lows its somehow still in my possession. Its a 92 'Steel Grey' car that was originally a 1.6 until with the help of a friend I converted it to a 2.0 16v with an engine from a 306 GTI6. I've tried to keep it looking original, and retain as much of the original 'character' as I can.
I had to take the car off the road last spring, but luckily I have use of my mums garage to keep it safe. Unfortunately this turned out to be a disaster, as in her infinite wisdom mum managed to lose the (only) key and alarm immobiliser! I kept hoping they would turn up but over a year on I made a visit to the family/car and was greeted with a scene from one of those Hoarder Next Door programs..

Something clearly had to be done! So a date was set, a friend with a discovery/trailer bribed, and a plan hatched. The end result..

Unfortunately the car is a bit of a shed externally with more lacquer peel than you can shake a pain au chocolat at, however more worryingly a couple of tiny rust bubbles I knew of have clearly been busy, especially the bottom of the drivers door which I can only assume has rotted from the inside out by the way its suddenly appeared.
Plan currently is to buy a new lock set, pull the immobiliser out (an aftermarket one anyway), and try and get it started. Once this is done, it needs dampers all round desperately and from memory the rear brake drums need attention. I'll then get an MOT on the old girl and use as is for summer, trying to tidy up what I can as I go.
I've been toying with the idea of putting the car back to standard for a while, I'll make this decision when I get it re-sprayed in the future.
I am NOT a mechanic and will sadly be on a tight budget, but will try and keep progressing slowly.
