I thought I would take the liberty of starting this one again as the other thread has gone completely pear shaped 
Excellent!
Mine would be as above but to add:
* Always expect to potentially meet yourself coming the other way and allow for it.
* Be courteous and give others the room and respect they deserve.
* Don't drive with an ego
*If you are going to drive fast really really concentrate
* Read roadcraft, practice and critisise you own driving every time you go out.
* Put your foot down and have fun!

1. Check everything is in order (tyres, fluids, etc)
2. Find a quiet time of day (or night)
3. Do a safety recce run (muddy road, roadwords, etc)
4. Leave unsecured items at home
5. Make sure you're near an open petrol station
6. Nail it and have some controlled fun
7. Give yourself lots of margin for error
8. Arrive home in one piece
9. Polish the car and smile lots
10. Go and do it all over again
