I'm looking at buying a Guards Red 993 - one of the early ones.

The paint is good overall for a 120k mile car but it's let down by fading paint on the bonnet and one of the wings ((in places the paint has faded so much it looks white in places.....).

Are there any remedies other than a re-paint?

Has anyone had success with certain waxes/polishes - which I guess will only be a short-term fix anyway?

I'm willing to try to give the work a go myself - or would work with a Professional detailer if anyone can recommend someone good in the West Susex/Surrey area.

Any ideas very welcome.

Thanks

Victor

Do you have a DAS?

If not, you are welcome to bring the car over here and we can have a go - I had great success with mine, but obviously Polar is metallic and has a clearcoat.

I polished my 3.2 in Guards, but it had been resprayed.

Yours, if it is an early 993, probably has no clearcoat.

Sadly whatever you do it comes back. If you have panels in new paint it ends up looking like a patchwork quilt.

It will polish out. Autoglym works well but I guess there are a myriad of modern generation polishes that will do the job just as well if not better. Trick with guards red. Take it to a petrol station at night and look at it under sodium lights and you will instantly see which panels have been repainted.

Thanks Jonathan - I'm importing the (RHD) car from Germany so it will take a little time to arrive and for me to get it Registered for UK roads - when I do, I'd like to take you up on your kind offer.

Thanks again
