I am settin git up for my parents, Sky box under the stairs then having it output to the bedroom and the lounge.

the issue is how I remotely control it. magic eye, NEET IR injectors, Marmatek pyramids etc.

Does anyone have a setup similar, with an easy, reliable, robust solution to this problem?

I will be using an HDMi splitter into CAT6 cable back to HDMi to TV for both rooms I think. I may also just look to tun 2 x 15m HDMi cables to each room & back it up with cat6 to future proof it.

Thanks

I have this - one sky box feeding 4 rooms. Its all done with HDMI splitter/amplifier and remote function via magic eyes and a standard coaxial (was already installed in house) with an aerial amplifier. Works very well, you wouldn't know the difference between the room with the box and the others.

OK if they both like the same programmes. However with all the Sky choices that doesn't often happen in this house!

Yeah, same programme isn't an issue! Its just the two of them, and they aren't big TV watchers... It's future proofing/for my dad!

How does the magic eye workmanship? running coax shouldn't be a problem, but is it simply plugging magic eyes into both coax cables, running both coax cables back to the sky box.... Then how do they connect to sky box?

Thanks

Edit; the sky coax magic eye option looks tricky with the new sky HD boxes? How hard is it to set up?

Magic eye works.

out of the box there is another coax out which you run to the other tv.
Connect via coax ito the magic eye and then ten magic eye into the toner tv.

Use one cable, do not cut, as i think the eye uses ten shielding to send back the signal to the box to change channel.

Not all sky boxes have the coax out.

Do they have smart phones or tablets? If the Sky box is connected to the internet connection just use the Sky Plus app, gives TV guide and changes from any room in the house, also allows access to recorded stuff etc.

On some Sky boxes (DRX890 & 895) a magic eye only works on one of the coax sockets.

New Sky HD boxes don't come with RF connections, you need an IO link adaptor, about £15 each. You'll also need an RF splitter for the two cox into one RF2 outlet, splitter needs to have DC pass.

Better option maybe. Many HD over CATx extenders also have an IR link, use this instead.

I have recently bought and installed NEETs HDMI over CAT6 units (with a single CAT 6 cable). It works flawlessly over 50m of CAT6 and has the IR receiver / transmitter built in upto 1080p resolution. Definitely recommended.

We use Video over CAT6 boxes with IR built in. Sky box in the lounge which feeds into the kitchen over CAT6. The IR works perfect and in 3-4 months we have not had a single issue with locking up / picture loss etc.
Only down side is you need to buy an extra sky remote or carry it from one room to the other.

Just to update, I went with the safe route... Hdmi & 3.5mm extension as well a 4 x cat6 cables to bedroom and lounge, back into sky cupboard. Also ran 4 cat6 and hdmi to loft for what ever might happen in future.

Will set them up with it over hdmi for now, but keep an eye on it over cat6 in the future as that is definitely the neater option!

Thanks guys
