Warranty options?
Discussion
Looking at buying a 996 Cab, 2000, with full Porsche history. I understand from Porsche that you can purchase a warranty from them subject to an inspection. My questions are:
Is the warranty a good one?
Are there non-Porsche warranties that are as good?
If the dealer has it serviced at an Independent specialist, prior to purchase, does this invalidate my ability to purchase a Porsche warranty?

You can get the warranty, which will cost:
Inspection - £200
Warrant - £725
+ any remedial work (done by OPC or inspection is invalid, so £100 per hour labour).
+ full service at OPC (if you have had independet service - not 100% sure on this though).
As "extended" warranties go it is generally better than most in that there is no claim limit (up to the value of the car).
However, as with all extended warranties it has more holes than a fisherman's net, I have some recent and bitter experience with this:
1. Major coolant leak, identified to be a seal - seals, gaskets and other "small" parts are not covered, so £600 labour charge!
2. Intermittent faults are not covered - I had an intermittent electrical fault which was not covered although it posed the problem of the car cutting out at speed - fixed it myself, but not impressed when told that the unit involved must "fail completely" before it would be replaced under warranty (although it IS covered).
This does not match the original manuf warranty, and the OPC stress to me I "only" have the extended warranty.

Funny same rates in Germany but in Euros. Yet my Euro warranty is valid in the UK...
I use www.warrantywise.co.uk.
My 944 only qualifies for the classic car warranty but I gave them a ring and they 'upgraded' me to a more comprehensive policy. I even managed to negotiate a slight discount.
Worth a look at the very least.
