Any restaurants you can recommend? Special occasion, price doesn't matter. Doesn't have to be Michelin stars, over the top, just a nice place with amazing food.

I like the Loetje mid-upmarket chain. The one at Centraal station is a nice location based on the water. Their speciality is the Beifstuk Ossenhaus (Steak in a rich, rich butter sauce). The have a spicy version, which I think spoils the taste. Also make sure you order the Bitterballen while you wait for your main.

Higher end, I remember eating DeCompagnon about 15yrs ago and remember it being very good.

At very much a lower end, but probably my favourite place to eat in Amsterdam is Bird's Thai snackbar. They have a proper restaurant across the road - but the atmosphere is so much more chaotic, noisy and lively at the snackbar and I love it (wife did too). You will likely have to queue if you go for dinner, and will have to get up during your meal to let other diners pass, you will likely have to share a table and they only take cash. I love it.

8 of us had a delicious meal in Senses, which got positive feedback from all of us.
You chose the number of courses, and leave the rest up to them. The Sommelier was fantastic with his pairing choices too.

This place was good fun - the waiting staff are all from the local drama college, so sing in between serving dishes.

Sounds a bit corny but they're all very good and it's good fun for a night out with the missus.
