Anybody else out there giving up/given up recently?

I stopped on Monday night and can honestly say I don't feel too bad (although I may have been a bit grumpy)

Any recommendations to help? I have found that the gum makes me feel ill, but didn't smoke enough to need the patches.

I'm goint to start putting the money away to go towards a decent motor!!

Don't tell the missus that though!!

Gave up just under a year ago.

Thanks to Allen Carr's book. If you get cravings then read his book. It's amazing.

Ted - based on the amount of ercomendations for Allen Carrs stuff on this forum, why don't you try to get him to sponser PH?

Keep at it. I don't feel much different after six months but I sleep a lot better and that in itself is worth it for me.
If you get a craving, try some normal chewing gum or go do something that takes your mind off it.

Yep, read the book and as Plotloss says on the other thread, it was a little "kiddie" style. So, if you are easily patronised then I would suggest something else

BUT - finished the book and listened to the CD's and low and behold NO smoking. Worked a treat. Dont want one, cant stand the idea of one and love the money aspect.

Feel a lot better already, but have yet another cold so getting a little peeved now. But, can get up in the morning and sleep is a lot better. Cant wait for a few more months and the other things to improve. Better appetite, more taste and better general fitness - oh and none of those pounding heart moments.....

But, I will not turn into one of those god-awful ex-smokers who make life hell. No, if you want to then thats fine. Its just I know / remember what it was like and its a trap and you have my sympathy....

I just want to be careful that I don't pile any weight on, as I am struggling to get rid of some at the moment...

When you hit 20 stone it gives you a bit of a jolt...

And the bucket seat on the 205 is getting a bit tight!!

Still, we'll have to see what comes of the Opel Ascona 400 my mate was supposed to go look at last night, at least I'll have some more room to play with

Top tip, don't let your guard down... I went twelve weeks and felt nicely relaxed down the pub so I thought "Just the one"

Whoops, big mistake. Back on the old amount again now

Well done, keep the faith.
Glad to see that someone else is helping me to support the NHS.

Of course, it's understandable if you give up due to immediate health problems.

Gave up New Year's Day 2004, so 14 months ago.
I'm really glad I did it.
Can't say I used any kind of tactics to stop, just willpower, and it wasn't that bad.
Haven't had one fag since.

It is now coming up to two years since I quit.... went from 20-30 a day to zero without using gum/patches etc etc.

Pure willpower, and actually "wanting" to quit, rather than doing it to please others (the wife!)

Do occasionally have one or two during stressful times at work... probably equates to 4 or 5 a month.

Have put weight on, and am finding that difficult to shift, but am happier to be an overweight non-smoker (or ex-smoker) than an average sized nicotine-smelling health hazard.

Well Done. I gave up 1 month 3 weeks 1 day 12 hours ago. I have not smoked 1605 fags and not spent £381.29. All this information is gathered by this little piece of software, give it a go. And dont give up and start again.

a close friend has recently quit with the help of patches, its been two weeks now andshe wants to test herself in a pub environment. I'm going to try and go without for the evening as moral support, its only for a few hours after all! I've got plenty of finger nails to chew on, as i managed to stop that disgusting habit a couple of years ago!!

The BBC conducted a little experiment comparing how easy it is to stop using willpower*, patches, gum, hypnotherapy, etc.

Guess which was the only smoker to stop completely? The willpower guy.

* it wasn't actually just willpower, he used carrot sticks to nibble on.
