Cayenne purchase

Hi,

Potentially looking at a Cayenne V6 diesel as new family transport with a budget of up to £40k.

any user experiences of this model? Things to watch out for or any common issues?

Am i right in thinking that i can get a Porsche warranty if i put it through their check process?

From a spec perspective what are the must have options?

We bought a 61 plate (Jan 2012) V6 D last year with 16k miles on it, now has 25k

Zero issues, I let the warranty lapse in Jan, as little or known issues
Easy 44 mpg, wife and I love it, it drives great just like a big fat Golf GTI.

Ours has £13k of extras, stuff that matters to me

reverse camera, pan roof, air suspension, sat nav, blue tooth, auto tailgate , 19" alloys


stuff that matters to others that my wife's car is missing is
18 way electric seats
xenon lights
21 inch wheels

bought for c£34k and just turned down a trade bid for £30,500

Surprised you are getting that good MPG - that would be a bonus!

Spec wise thats about what i'm after although would like xenons.

Based on current prices on Autotrader looks like you got a bargain - was that private or trade?

I bought it from a "dealer" who had brought it in PX against a brand new range rover - I bought it as a trade buy ( zero come back, zero opportunity to inspect etc, decision over the phone etc).

However it had 8 months Porsche warranty left, only one Prev owner and I worked for the same group as the "dealer" so he talked me through the car (even sent me a video)

I think I might have even bettered 44 mpg on a slow long run...pretty sure I've done over 700 miles on one tank full

This is my wife's Cayenne 3.0 V6D with a few options including air suspension, Bose, Chrono and Sport Design kit. It really is a any occasion car and great value for money. I'd highly recommend one!

Excellent cars, although I'd be sceptical about 44mpg - 35 is far more realistic.

Personally, I'd want the extended Warranty.

Lots of desirable options, so you'll need to decide what you want - more the better to really enjoy the experience.

I had no idea you could get that kind of mileage out of these! I've got an early E70 X5 which struggles to get mid 20's....

Don't really do enough miles to justify the change based just on MPG but that's not the point!

I've got a V6 3.0d. 35-38mpg is more realistic but have seen 40+ on a long drive cruising at 55-60mph. Warranty is a must IMO and experience. A few V6's have developed oil leaks which require engine strip and re-seal (glue). Mine has had it fixed and OPC has seen a few similar. Power tailgate packed up recently and replaced under warranty. It's a fantastic car to drive though - feels solid and wears well. I would have another, but would have to be same spec - Air, 18-way seats, full leather, big wheels, Sportdesign kit etc etc etc. Just buy an OPC car with 2-years warranty and you won't be disappointed. Also, plenty to choose from atm.

Looks like a trip to my OPC coming up this weekend as I do like the thought of the two year warranty. However like I said before if you buy outside the OPC network can you get back onto the Porsche warranty scheme?

Hold their money very well, cool car.

Got Tourag R now with everything on it for £400 a month. Same car really, better for all the options and £300 a month less on finance.

I've now done 122k on it and if you drive it relatively sensibly you can get 35+ out of it. With the 100litre tank you could see 800ish miles! Unfortunately the power does seem to tempt you to drive it like you've stole it. This has meant my average has come down to around the 30mpg mark:

Like others have said the warranty is very good to have. I extended mine at the end last year and the following work done all under warranty:
- Auto tailgate struts creaking so were replaced
- Wiper motor failure
- Air-con leak sorted

Mine rides on the Turbo 2's (21inch) but doesn't have air. Personally I couldn't really feel the difference and went with something that I wanted more - heated windscreen

Anyway, get one. They are epic.

Great cars,go the wife one a few weeks back.I think if you have the 21 inch wheels though air is very useful .

No offence intended but it's not the same car, although they share lots of things the style or image is incomparable.

Agree, same platform, but Cayenne substantially developed and refined dynamically at Weissach.
