Worrying. This sort of vigilante action can only give those supporters of cameras ammunition against those of us who oppose the siting of speed cameras/traps for revenue and not safety.

It'll get to the point where all cameras are deemed "good" and all drivers are deemed "bad".

I understand their frustration but I cannot condone the methods.

But at least they're taking action - I suppose. I just wish it could be a) legal and b) more likely to actually change things.

Not so sure, Don.
After all, the anti-poll tax riots did persuade politicians that such a thing was not too popular amongst certain folk.
Violent demonstration against inanimate objects that only the most anal could feasibly support?
I, for one, offer my warmest approval!
Keep smashing the buggers.

Regrettable as it may be that it has come to this level of expression, but I agree with Derestrictor - keep wrecking the buggers!!

this form of action is only the result of not having any other......I hope it kicks off all over the country and be seen to be limited to a few 'criminals'

Nice one.

Something the spokesman said made me laugh, the bit about installing camera's to help save lives. Suprisingly I've only ever seen a gatso flash its camera and take a picture of the offending motorist to enable the authorities to send them a bill.

I've never seen a camera give a motorist a cautionary wave to slow down because of hazard up ahead, or a warning to a driver to watch out for the illegal joyrider screaming up from behind. Similarly i've never seen a gatso help out after a crash/accident or call an ambulance or alert the authorities when required. They just seem to stand about taking photographs.Really helpful

I'm surprised its taken so long for an organisation to be developed. It reminds me of the fuel crisis when people just got more and more pissed off with the government taking the piss out of the average motorist. As far as I am concerned its just another sly tax. Canadians saw this straight away and protested. Ripping the camera's down might not be the best way to protest but I bet they feel much better after they do it

A spokesman said: "In three years 112 people have been killed and seriously injured in the vicinity of the cameras that were vandalised. There were 800 injuries in total in areas near the cameras.

I thought Gatsos emit a life prolonging aura of protection for those 'near' or 'in the vicinity', these ones appear to be severely affecting the health of those nearby!

ps wasnt there something in the news recently stating that some places now had more accidents since the 'stealthtaxmachines' where put up.

Its About time we stood up TOGETHER as a country like are european comrades to fight these things together.
Not just Gatso,s but everthing that is allways aimed at the middle/working/honest class of person who gets canned for near enough anything they do.

IT STINKS

Slightly off topic, but..

If i drive my own car at 35mph through a 30mph zone and get caught on camera I have no rights and have to incriminate myself by providing the bizzies with the drivers name-moi.

Alternatively if i take up drug-dealing and granny mugging and nick your car and drive though a 30mph zone at 100mph i'm protected by the law and the right to silence.

Nice one Tony.

This lack of right to silence is exactly why Idris Francis (member of the Association of British Drivers) is taking a test case to the European courts.

Here's a thought.
If you get a NIP through the post asking you to name the driver(yourself) etc who did the speeding, would it be an acceptable response to refuse naming the driver(yourself) due to the fact this may incriminate you with respect to a seperate non-driving offence, such as leaving the scene of the bank robbery you've just committed?
