Greetings, and I hope you get "YOUR" Cerb.
If you're not sure, I'd get somebody TVR experienced to look at it: Some of the independent Cerb specialists will do this, and it's far safer.
Our Cerb is also a 97 4.2, and it is a great car. Just make sure you stash a couple of grand for a rainy day, or, if you're lucky, upgrades...

The key thing to look at is the history file. Ensure loads spent on it (eg many thousands) and no corner cutting.
Check oil pressure starts high and then goes lower but remains ok, look for later clutch and later dip stick, check for cracks in grp (where rear pillar meets rear wings), check for stone chipping, check all electrics (esp doors and windows), look at suspension and chassis, expect accident damage repairs but nothing too serious. etc etc no horrid noises or smoke from engine ! Will be tappety when cold.
