Private Health Insurance
Discussion
Mrs Puff wants to get private health insurance for the family which is me + Mrs Puff 40s and two children under 10.
I've lived in Australia before where private health insurance is common and from my Australian experience, most years there is a claim. Infact several claims. All the claims usually don't come even close to the amount you have paid in premiums, but there are still claims most years.
Okey in my UK quotes, the one my wife likes starts off with a 65% no claims discount and every time any person claims in a year, you lose 10% of your no claims discount. Potentially for all four of us having a trip to a private GP in one year, we would lose 4 x 10% = 40% of the NCD, which would effectively double the premium for the following year. The annual premium is around £1,500.

Which company is it your wife likes?
You can sometimes pay a little extra for protected no claims. You will also probably find that there is a max no of claims they count per year and some claims may not count anyway.
I have a policy which I wouldn't be without and have used approx five times in last 5/6 years,
edit- didn't see your comment about a private GP- Private GP consultations are not covered under most policies.
