I just read the post regarding a quote with the Hurricane mod and a few postees mentioned Adrian Flux. They're the company my dealer suggested I should call for the best quote. I'd be interested to hear from anyone of a similar age to me for where they got their insurance from as AF gave me (what I consider) an over-inflated quote of £960.

I'm 35, 8 years NCD, tracker, garaged, no points, insuring a 2005 111R.

The best quote I got was Direct Line at £696. Can anyone suggest a better place to try? I'm sure AF are good for some people but a £280 difference seems excessive.

AF were not that good for me last year. But were this year. I would guess this is down to 1. I know have a years experience driving an Elise and 2. I modded the car.

Try this url where they claim to ask just about every insurer out there (appart from esure) www.confused.com

Good luck

Try Elephant online - they may do you better. Also try going back to AF and see if they can match your best quote (unless you tried that already!).

Insurance calculation:
1. Take down applicant details
2. Take out excel spreadsheet with random calculus
3. Throw away applicant details apart from name, address, tel no.
4. Generate initial quote
5. Refer to underwriters
6. Underwriter puts down Times crossword, tea and scone
7. Times initial quote by 10, divide by the number of digestives left in the office tin, apply weather/day of the week factor of boredom, if wife/gf did not please last night add £150.
8. Give quote to customer

Mmmm,

600 odd quid seems not too bad for a 111R.

Could try Autotorque - did a good deal for me with mods etc etc.

Norwich Union quoted £3500!!! Tesco quoted £1100 but required a tracker but I don't have one.

They guy there was very helpful too, I would recommend them, and they do around £70 per trackday.

I got a quote from this site and they quoted me £450 which is the cheapest I've ever been quoted . That was with an excess of £300 though. www.quotelinedirect.co.uk dont know if they are any good though?

31 years old, full NCB, Garaged.

Weird thing insurance.

I have just tried them 31 full NCB, garaged with a 400 voluntary excess and they quoted me £1375. Just over £700 with admiral.

Just an update on this insurance.. Tried Tesco as they were insuring my old car. New car 2005 111s Not too bad at £770. nine yrs NCB 3 points, 37 yrs and garaged. But they wanted expensive tracker fitted. Gone with First Alternative. No tracker required. Protected NCB £540. Worth shopping around..
