Two months...

Lucky he wasn't speeding then.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lancashire/4319295.stm

A driver who knocked down a motorcyclist and drove off with the victim's foot embedded in his car bumper has been jailed for two months.
Peter Dearing, 23, sped off from the crash in Blackburn, Lancashire, leaving Richard Sholl screaming in agony.

Dearing, of Read, Burnley, rang police after finding the foot in the bumper of his car, Blackburn magistrates heard.

He admitted driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident and driving without insurance.

Dearing, a law student, also admitted driving with faulty brakes and steering, and to driving illegally with a provisional licence, which he obtained following a previous disqualification.

The court heard Dearing had eight points on his provisional licence when he crashed into Mr Sholl, 37, last October.

On Friday he was jailed for two months, banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay £300 compensation.

The court heard that Mr Sholl was riding his Honda along Yew Tree Drive in Blackburn when Dearing's grey Volvo estate veered into the outside lane and hit him.

When Dearing drove off, a motorist came to help Mr Sholl, who had to have his leg amputated.

In a statement to the court, Mr Sholl said: "My left foot is gone forever.

"I am going to be stuck like this through no fault of my own. I feel so frustrated.

"All this has happened because of a selfish, stupid, illegal driver who left me alone injured in the road."

Sophie Lorimer, prosecuting, said: "Dearing must have known that this was a serious injury because he told a policeman he could hear the screaming."

Paul Schofield, defending, admitted that Dearing had "a poor attitude to licences and insurance".

what the hell? he had 8 points on a provisional already?
what makes anyone think this bloke will be ok to drive in two years time, the man is obviously completely unsuitable for driving - life ban immediately with jail if he ever gets behind a wheel again

and 300 quid? an insult

Do you really think he will be waiting two years to get behind the wheel of a car again?
It seems he was already driving while disqualified on a different licence so I think he will be driving again in about 8 weeks. Hopefully he will get caught and locked up for a bit longer or maybe even kill himself and make the roads in the NW a tad safer.

To put it in to perspective - when I was attacked in the street for no reason and received a fractured eye socket (a common injury when receiving a black eye) I was awarded £350 compensation.

£300 for an amputated leg

I only ever received £35 as the scrote disappeared but was found later at her majesty's pleasure

That's from the cretin who was sentenced. Won't the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board step in with a shedload of taxpayers' money soon? Not that this guy doesn't deserve more, but better if the perpetrator was enduring hard labour for years to pay him.

Makes my son's 'failing to stop at an accident' a bit tame (chrisbb). Interesting he's a law student wonder if being a member of such a respectable? institution made his case any different. He must be the apple of his parent's eye!
£300 for a leg the victim was only 37!

He's lucky he wasn't speeding or trying to avoid a NIP... The fine could well have been much higher

To be honest you can do a 'law' degree at any university, including a lot of these new fangled ones. In order to practise as a lawyer you still need to have been to a law school following getting a law degree. There are only a few of them around so competition for places is pretty fierce (or so I'm told). Anyway, even if he did manage to get through law school he wouldn't be able to be a practising lawyer as he has a conviction. (IIRC you can't be a lawyer if you have a conviction.)
I still think they should hang the f**ker though.
And tear out his fingernails with a pair of pliers. The bloody justice system in this country makes me sick.

This is physicaly sickening. I hope the scum has a hard time living with what he's done...but his history suggests he's not worried about anyone but himself.

It dosen't mention the scrotes insurance, but even if he had it I presume it would be invalid if he was driving by himself on a provisional?

I'd have thought so. I suppose he'll be out in a month....

Now let's see....

1) knocked down a motorcyclist
2) drove off with the victim's foot embedded in his car bumper
3) found the foot in the bumper of his car
4) admitted driving without due care and attention
5) admitted failing to stop after an accident
6) admitted driving without insurance
7) admitted driving with faulty brakes
8) admitted driving with faulty steering
9) admitted to driving illegally with a provisional licence
10) had a previous disqualification
11) had eight points on his provisional licence.

Not a bad list of misdemenours, is it?

And he got...

1) jailed for two months
2) banned from driving for two years
3) ordered to pay £300 compensation.

It looks like it's far more acceptable to knowingly drive illegaly, cause permanent suffering and wreak total havoc than to do 100mph on an empty motorway.

Not the BiB's fault as usual, but the judiciary's. So glad they'll be involved in deciding who can be put under house arrest. Perhaps speeders will be the first?

I was going to post this last night after seeing it on the news, but i was too wound up about it

The git had been caught and not learnt from previous charges for the same offence, and now the scrote will probably serve 1 month of his pityful sentence before getting back out on to our streets.

it's about this time the courts of this land dragged them selves back to reality and sorted this sorry mess out.
