Oh the joys of having young children, youngest has been producing a lot of snot over the past week, I was desperately hoping that I'd got away with it but no...
Woke up on Tuesday morning feeling less than ok, sore throat and achy though I was on week 2 of couch to 5k (running) so I thought that could have accounted for some of the aches. Guess I'll have to start the running all over again now
By the time I got in from work on Tuesday night I felt worse and a bit shivery and wanted to go to bed. However by the time we'd got the kids to bed things were getting worse and then it transpires the missus has not made any effort towards dinner and I didn't really fancy much other than a bowl of soup but then she has a strop about not cooking from me if I don't want it
I went to bed at that point sort of hungry but not that bothered. What followed was a really cr*p nights sleep, hot, cold, aches, pains and then I foolishly took an Amitriptyline to try to knock me out from part of a packet I had leftover from another time. Didn't work, felt like death the next morning and should have had the day off work were it not for the fact I had the wife's car booked in the garage to see why it had failed its MoT on the emissions (faulty lambda sensor). That day was like nothing I've ever known before, it physically took effort to stay awake no matter how much caffeine I tried to get down me. Not sure if this was the after effects of the Amitriptyline or just being knackered. I was praying the garage would get back to me about the car and say I could pick up early but as it was it wasn't ready until 5pm.
Last night was slightly better (and no self prescribing), woke in a pool of sweat at some point in the early hours but managed to drop off again. Still felt fairly sh*te in the morning and probably should have stayed at home however my missus isn't working at the moment so going to work was actually preferable to spending the day with her and the youngest. The morning hasn't been too bad but again struggling to stay awake this afternoon and I can tell when the paracetamol is wearing off.
I'm hoping for a better night tonight and again committed to work tomorrow as I have to take the missus car for an MoT retest. The things I do....
You'd have thought having a partner would make the whole experience of being ill that much more bearable but it is in fact the opposite. They don't do sympathy. If I were still single I'd be at home now lying on the sofa with a bowl of chicken soup catching up on movies / TV or having a nap as I need it. Now days I think I'd have to be given a final prognosis before I get any sympathy and even then she'd be trying to get me to not mop around / get up and do stuff.
Rant ends

Them's the breaks. I started with MF on Sunday night, was camping with Mrs B. Woke up on Monday morning in the tent, packed everything, drove to Essex for work. Felt like death, bought some Lemsip and been living on it all week. Been *gradually* improving all week but still on the Lemsips and throat pills. Now at work in the West Mids, hoping that I'll feel better tomorrow or that death will be swift in coming. Staying in a hotel that was last updated in 1982. Nice.
Flu is the pits. Take paracetamol or better yet cocodamol (plus ibuprofen or similar) regularly, a dose every 6 hours - it's good to a save a dose for the middle of the night if you're liable to wake up feeling particularly awful, or is that just me? - way better until waiting until you feel extra miserable and *then* going for the meds.
I've had 3 general anaesthetics, one abscess which stuck me in hospital on an IV for a week, a kidney-threatening bout of pyelonephritis, two rounds of tonsillitis so bad I couldn't swallow my own drool. Flu is right up there with the most poorly I've ever felt. Feel better soon.
PS keep a written record of paracetamol doses if you're really out of it, an accidental overdose definitely wouldn't improve matters.

Well it's now Monday and I'm still much less than A1. Felt a little better yesterday but still woke up soaked in sweat last night, yuk. Eating has become a bit easier, not really a sore throat as such, instead all the glands in my neck are swollen up / sore and this makes it difficult to swallow.
The previous night was very bad thanks to my kids who also seem to be suffering with something at the moment / not sleeping. I'd just got into bed and about to doze off when the light on the landing got turned on and in came our youngest. The wife failed to get her back to bed, just lifted her into ours so I sort alternative arrangements. For some illogical reason I thought I'd be more comfortable on the sofa than in her bed so went there to sleep, a couple of hours of fitful sleep and it was getting light then I hear someone trying to open the stair gate shortly followed by my eldest who said he couldn't sleep. Fired up the TV and watched a few movies, I thought he was going to doze off but was having none of it. I had now gone 6am, the wife and youngest were stirring. Hoped I'd be able to go back to bed for a while when the wife arrived but she seemed to think that she'd been done out of sleep too, had a small argument after which she told me to go to bed but couldn't sleep now due to being wound up. Eventually had a fitful half hour or so of sleep but it was getting a bit noisier outside now so I kept getting woken (bloody magpies). Worst night's sleep (or lack of it) ever.
So today in addition to still feeling rubbish I have a fairly bad eye infection, got some drops from the chemist for it now (every 2 hours) so hopefully it will clear up quickly. Very annoying. I hate being ill

I'm not a doctor...
I think you are tired and generally run down, I say this because I have been there, I only have one kid, and my wife who is usually quite fair also has a huge selfish streak, as I'm sure all women seem to have(in my experience). I also work nights, so poor sleep sometimes too.
It sounds like you are running around and doing loads. You must not treat sleep as a luxary, you need it. Perhaps you could get a trusted family member to do some baby sitting and both you and the mrs get some non kid, chill time, get a proper meal and a proper sleep. A night would help, two would be better.
Also remember you and your mrs are both in it, you need to find a way to both relax away from the kids.
Oh and I now take a multivitamin, not sure it actually works but I feel like it does.
Good Luck~!

I need to go back to multivits. Last week's cold hung around, bit of a throat infection feel, felt as rough as soot on Saturday, having spent most of the week on Lemsips. Spent Saturday on the sofa eating comfort food, watching TdF and dozing.
Multivits are one of those things that cost about 1p a day. It's a no-brainer, esp for Vit D in the winter.
Time out is indeed a necessity.

I know it's just a cold but this has got to be one of the worst ones I've ever experienced.
Over that last few days my body has decided to go into snot overload. I've never known anything like it, literally having to blow my nose every couple of minutes. The worst thing is it carries on at night and I find I'm waking probably every half hour just to clear things out so I can get back to sleep. Still a bit sweaty too which doesn't help matters.
On the plus side the eye drops seemed to have done the job on the infection as it's much reduced.
I really wish that it would do one now so I can get back to my normal life. Haven't had a beer in nearly two weeks (maybe that's the problem!).

Where are you located? There's one doing the rounds here (Dorset) which is a nasty bugger of a cold, if that's what it is. Starts with a sore throat then comes with indigestion (nausea for some) and extreme muscle fatigue, plus makes your eyes tired if you're driving etc. I was so weak, I was shuffling round the house in little half steps like a zombie.
I had it, got the usual 'man flu' BS from the OH, who is now off work. I worked through.

I developed proper hayfever this year for the first time, aged 30.
Try taking an antihistamine.
Can't really hurt, might hugely help the snot overproduction.
PS blow your nose if you're liable to actually leak boogers everywhere, but not if it just feels blocked, sometimes that's inflammation not mucous and trying to clear it makes it worse.
