Ugh, bad news. Mechanic says my diff internals are damaged. Apparently a tooth broke off... and obviously did further damage.

To be clear, the actual diff, not the crownwheel/pinion.

For starters I can't find a part number for the standard open diff. "Katalog" only lists the LSD.

So I have no idea whether the assy is available as a part or not. Anyone know?

Secondly - an LSD option is not (all that) expensive. Apparently - 855+vat. Quaife.

No brainer?

Note that I don't have any specific desire to install an LSD, so if I could get this sorted keeping an open diff and there are savings, please let me know how I go about this.

Thanks in advance...

Well, I bought a used diff from the US, and will be cannibalizing it for the parts. So hopefully - won't know till job done of course - sorted. Fingers crossed. Car gets a lot more garage time than road time. frown

It'll defo be lsd, no way did Porsche fit an open diff to the turbo... Aftermarket or second hand for me would be the first port of call.

No, all Turbos had open diffs as standard.

Surely if you fit an lsd in place of an open diff on (one end only of) a 4wd car all sorts of weirdness could happen? I'd expect the abs/traction control to throw a wobbly for a start.

No, it's commonly done. No reason why it should, if anything it lessens the chance of TC being triggered.
