Hi all
Just wondering if people could help me with a conundrum I'm currently going through.
We're moving in the ne ad future (hopefully!) from Peterboroughto swavesey near Cambridge. At present I'm a member of virgin active in Peterborough, which offers everything I could possibly need training wise. However due to the cost implications of moving so much closer to cambridge, I don't think a gym membership is readable at the moment. As a result I'm looking at what kit I'd need to set up a decent training facility in the garage of the new house. I've already got dumbells and a bar, but have been looking at kettlebells as a possible addition. Any thoughts on if this is a good idea? I don't use them at present, but it's something I've been thinking about already.
Also, if I do go for them, what sizes should I get? I'm average fitness and strength I'd say!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

What would you like to use them for, that you cannot do with your dumbbells?

Well I guess that's sort of the question I'm asking really! Should I be looking at them as part of a garage set up. Are they beneficial? Will I use them? I know some of those questions only I can answer, but I was hoping for others' insights as to what and how much they use theirs I guess!

Before you move, why not do a couple of Kettlebell classes at Virgin to get a taste of what you can do with them?
I like the Kettlebell workouts as a good strength/cardio workout. I mix it in with a 5x5 routine and other full body weights routines.

Hi,

there is a decent gym in St Ives that does some kettlebell classes. Might be worth popping along once you've moved. A LOT cheaper than Virgin(I would know, I used to work there as a PT).

I can't think of any worthwhile kettle exercise that couldn't be done with dumbbells

If you do decide you want to train with kettlebells, maybe consider http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adjustable-Kettlebell-Ho...
You can do most things with a dumbbell but if you are to train at home there's nothing wrong with adding as much variety as you can to keep you motivated. You can train ligaments and tendons with kettlebells just because the weight is so unbalanced.... which will make dumbbells even easier to control and lift.

A friend of mine works in RP Fitness in Cambridge. They do strongman training and I'm pretty sure that they use kettle bells.

Ask for D an T homas (spaced on purpose so he can't be searched)if you do visit RP.
