Can anyone tell me what sort of bulb goes in the spot light on a 400, and where to get one please?

Or does anyone have a spare one they can bring to the BBWF in exchange for a beer token please?

Thanks.

I bought one from there for my old red 400. I was told this is what you want mate but it wasn't (no earth).

The correct bulb has a short flying lead (power) and is earthed via the bulb metal mounting hardware when fitted. If the bulb does not work then you have an electrical issue with the lamp itself or elsewhere.

Turn on lights, main beam on, multimeter .... look for power at the lamp if none there then some simple tracing of power back will find the fault. If power present then it's a earth problem.... again trace back to fault ... Simples

Thanks.

I am talking about the spot light/driving light below the bumper, not the headlight. Isn't a H1 a headlight unit....? Doesn't the spotlight bulb for the wedge have two wires on it, and not just one for normal cars....?

For Cibie Airports or equivalent you need the H3 package I believe

yes that's what's in both of mine. Earth was dodgy on one of them but a clean up had it working again.

Thanks. Haven't looked at this one yet but my old red 400 definitely had two wires running from the bulb....

Sorry I always seem to be contradictory, but my Airports have halogen bulbs with two terminals; the bulb's held in by a spring wire. The unit can have either one or two wires exiting it; in a one-wire setup there's actually a short wire from one side of the bulb holder to the case of the unit (which is then earthed by its mounting stud) or there are two wires from the bulb that exit the case and need connectors to the car loom. On the 390SE both lamps are 2-wire, but some of the spares I've bought over the years have one... but none of them have that bulb shown above... they have an H2:

which clips into a holder as above.

As far as I can establish, the Cibie Airport (or Iode) Model 35 has been around since the dawn of time; you see them on 1970s Yank tanks and 1980s French hatchbacks. As well as chrome you can also get them in black crackle finish (IMHO suits the Wedge better as it's not a chromey car) and with yellow or clear lenses and with fog or long-range lenses so it's entirely possible they made variations of the reflectors that could accommodate different bulbs.
So we're all correct biggrin

H2, as above. The brown plastic bit is the lamp holder.

Thanks.

It's only done 3000 miles over the last three years, and it was one of Mr Tanks before that, so low miles (59000 in total).

Has it still got the air con on it! Plus do the headlight washers still work?
