This doesn't look normal - help!

Hi All

I've just noticed that the pin that holds the alternator onto its offside mounting is sticking out a bit



I can't seem to move it either back in or (I guess quite thankfully) out.

Any ideas?

Whack it back in and go find a nut for it

You should be able to wiggle it back in. Worst case you'll need to take the drive belt off to release the tension on the gubbins.

Should be a nut and washer, to fit on other end, but probably on the road somewhere
Tap it back through for a start though

I think you better get that back in! I guess that the tension has meant it's held too tight to "bang"* it back in?

Great work guys - I greased the pin with a bit of WD40 and tapped it back in with a hammer.

Just need to find an appropriately sized washer and nut and I'll be sorted.

If only everything could be sorted with a little percussion maintenance!

might want to fit a locking washer also to prevent same again.

That thread probably isn't entitled to a white wedding so the new nut will probably be quite stiff on it anyway.

No, I mean the thread on the bolts will be ed so the nuts will be stiff anyway.

Very true, although it must have happened very quickly as I check under the bonnet for leaks, loose connections, ing great pins sticking out of the alternator etc on a weekly basis!
