Hi all,

The rear discs/pads need replacing on our 996 GT3. It is used mainly on the road and 2-3 track days per year.

Standard Pagid discs with 'Porsche genuine' Textar pads from Euro Car Parts are significantly cheaper than genuine Porsche items. The total for rear discs, pads and associated gubbins from Euro Car Parts is £340, as opposed to around £600 inc. VAT for genuine Porsche items.

What do we think about the 'Porsche genuine' pads from Euro Car Parts? Same compound? Link to them here. I'm confident in the discs as I've previously fitted Pagids on two other cars used regularly on track without issue.

They're consumables; they'll be fine.

Do not buy pagids from eurocarparts they are made under license so not the real deal,I bought a pair of front discs for a fiesta and warped in 2000 miles! I have also read of this happening on other cars and have insider manufacturing info that they are best avoided!

Interesting, I've had Pagid discs from ECP on the front of my FN2 for 12,000+ miles and 4 track days and they've been fine. My previous MX5 also did about 15 track days on Pagid discs from ECP, front and rear, with no issues.

How long ago did you have the problem with your Fiesta discs?

No 911 but I've run pagid discs from eurocarparts on my e30 race car for years and generally get a full season out of them with out issue.

Also bought pads for my 996 GT3 from them and they've been fine for a year or 2 of road use.

I had a similar issue of the wife's X5, now back to genuine BMW parts.

A friend fitted a set to his X50 TT before leaving for a Euro trip, they lasted half a day at SPA before the pads fell apart and killed the discs.

it was about 4 years ago, but I bought & fitted a set of Pagid pads for my GT3 from ECP just before a trip to Spa;
I killed them in one morning.
Now, you may say it was my fault etc - it may have been, but I've never done this to a set of pads before, or after !
It got to the point when braking at the end of Kemmel I had black clouds coming from them !

went to RS29's direct after that - no issues

Thanks for the advice all - think we'll go with Sebro discs and the 'VM Porsche Genuine' Textar pads.

Works out about £360 all in, including the dampening plates and wear sensors, so still significantly less expensive. thumbup

911p just my 2cents worth

Textar/Pagid are the same company am sure part of the TMD Group

Not sure if Sebro is O.E but supposedly they use the same cast Porsche use for the discs so assume just as good as O.E

Depending on who you speak to at ECP or know someone who's got a trade account that can get NET 5 discount you can probably get it a tad cheaper than £360 all in

The VM parts come in the original OPC box anyway and normally a lot cheaper than buying from OPC as you have experienced

Discs & pads all round on the 997.1 TT from ECP including VM Parts was a lot cheaper than OPC

Just proves you can beat the Porsche tax

Either way all the best hopefully you can't go wrong at that price

Talking of Porsche vs Pagid - i've been trying to source the Pagid boxed P40 replacement pads for a PCCB equipped GT3 without success - can anyone here help? Tried all the usual suspects (ECP, design911, porscheshop). Maybe Porsche have put the frighteners on Pagid and they won't supply P40's anymore :-(

Porsche want £421+VAT per axle! yikes

Flopper

I can't really get my head around it to dig out if the P40's are available outside OPC

However try these guy as there normally helpful and see if they are available and if not what is the reason why they not are available and what are the alternatives (which hopefully should be a lot cheaper the OPC Price)

http://www.racepads.co.uk/pagid-distributors.html

Also call Pagid directly themselves and speak to a tech maybe and see if you can get around the supply issue or what the alternatives are that are the same or better quality and who supplies them

With a bit of leg work surely there'll be a result as there only brake pads at the end of the day consumable item which should be easily available somewhere somehow

Let us know how you get on

All the best
