Insurance Recommendation?
Discussion
I'm due to take delivery of my first ever Aston, a new (to me) Vantage S SP10, next Saturday and have just discovered that my current insurer, AXA, won't insure any Aston Martin. As I'm new to the whole Aston Martin world, I've no idea which insurers are likely to offer a competitively priced policy.
So far, Aviva and Direct Line have both quoted around £600, but I've no idea if this is competitive or not. It's about 50% more that AXA was charging me for my 997S (that I'm trading-in for the Aston). I'd be grateful if anyone could suggest other insurers that are known to be competitive for Aston Martin (and don't have a bad reputation in the event of a claim)!
Many thanks in advance.

OP this involves half an hour of your time in front of the computer, going through the comparison websites.
I ve found Admiral to be very good usually especially their multi car policy. However you have to churn each year, or threaten too. Last year for me it was Aviva, but back to Admiral for this year.
It all depends what you want from your insurer - just legal cover or Carllsberg style cover served to you by Virgins

I use Aviva principally because I can stipulate where the car is repaired in the event of an accident rather than having to use their "recommended repairer". For me this is irrelevant for the Mondeo but of paramount importance for the Aston. The quality of the cover was further confirmed when my summer wheels/tyres were stolen whilst off the car in storage this winter. All depends whether your priority is quality or price but it is an Aston. I don't think I have any track day cover and I think Locktons policy does so that is another consideration although Lockton's quote was quite a lot more for me.

Insurers can't stipulate where you have a car repaired, only limit the other benefits, such as providing a courtesy car, if you don't use their recommended repairer.Well my understanding is that they can limit the "hourly rate" or payment for a given repair so effectively limit you to the use of cheaper repairers unless you want to make a potentially large contribution. My job has nothing to do with insurance or insurance law so maybe those that do can clarify on this point.
I didn't have a terrific experience with Flux at my last renewal (after LV decided that they 'didn't insure anything that powerful', when they already did), culminating in an unrealistic quote and a rather condescending 'have you ever driven a car like this, sir?'
Best for me so far has been Quote Me Happy.

I have used Admiral and it does the basics cheaper but as previously stated you need to churn as my renewal this year with no claim in the year and 20+ NCD almost doubled. I was looking for extra coverage for EU road trips and track days and the package Locktons gave me was great along with extra discount being an AMOC member. The guy I used at Locktons was Marcus Ridley 0121 232 4537 he is Aston mad and loves the brand.

Did the comparison sites, but the 'competitive' quotes were mostly from companies that I would describe as 'Stella served by hookers' rather than 'Carlsberg served by virgins'! I found Locktons to be very competitive in price. However, I recently made a claim and it was a very painful process and I have raised a complaint (which is ongoing). I'm hoping its a one off, but you only find out if these insurance companies are worth the premiums when you actually make a claim.

Really? Thats interesting as many say how good they are and imo they are expensive so this really should not happen. Glad i never paid the extra.Have been with Chaucer for over 10 years now, the last 5 on a family fleet policy. Its about £300 for my Aston for 6k miles a year.
Do the compare thing online and you will see Chaucer in the list. I get mine via a broker www.paceward.com

I recently got my keys stolen, so needed a replacement set. Was all organised by myself through Locktons/AM Newcastle, but I had to pay up front twice because Chubbs couldn't make payment in time. I don't want to say too much as they are still investigating it, but not the level of service I expected from such a renowned and recommended (AMOC) company.

Same here. I have no idea what the Aston part costs, but Ferrari 360 + Porsche Cayenne + Aston V8 Vantage was ~£1,500 last year. Only the Ferrari is garaged and I insure for fairly high mileages - think the Ferrari is 5 or 6k, Aston is more and Cayenne is more.Do the compare thing online and you will see Chaucer in the list. This x2 and I believe Nick may know his onions here... Admiral clearly told me on the phone I would have to pay the difference between their 'cheapest going' £40 an hour repairer and an Aston approved place. The devil is in the detail with these b insurance people - noted that LV had sneaked off a few elements of cover for the DD on renewal recently for e.g. They are sneaky snakes the lot of them (other than Nick of course)!

Flux were adamant my Corvette was going to the local scratch and waft merchants up the road when some dozy mare drove into the side of me.We had to fight tooth and nail to get it to a specialist, stating that a bodywork expert would accompany me when collecting the car and if, following an in depth we weren't happy with the result I wouldn't accept the car and they'd have to keep it.
They said if I insisted on a specialist repairer then I'd have to sort the whole claim out myself without any help.
They we're not happy, and don't even get me started on not covering shipping of parts from the USA for an American car!!
I've had a day of insurance activity. I've had all sorts of nonsense out of people, too. Asking if I've had experience of driving similar cars etc :-/
Be Wiser initially quoted me very decent cover for a very decent price whch I paid for on the spot.
Whilst they went theough the small print, they had the car (V8 Vantage) as a saloon so I rectified them. Lord knows why given all of the other information they have to hand but so be it. The price then went from £850 to £1400.
Ater faffing about, I'm now covered with Elephant. Great on the phone, quick and courteous and instant details via email. From checking on the comparison site to cover took less than 12 minutes.
No doubt the quickest and smoothest policy inception I've ever experienced. No stupid questions about the value of the car or my ability to pilot it, either.
