Tell me about it, they get so many people on that road as the speed limit is just so daft. My dad used to be a fire officer at the local station and drove down there (on call I add) at in excess of 80mph on a regular basis in his company Picasso! There are plenty of people who drive down there at 60-70 as it is safe to do so, passing all the poor locals like me who know the road and pootle along at 50 to avoid a NIP!

...""But residents love us coming to their street. We'll park up and a few minutes later someone's tapping on our window offering us tea and biscuits."
Which residents would that be then on the A638? The woman from the caravan in the lay by?There are no houses anywhere near this place.

Yes that's it,the dual carriageway with central reservation and crash barrier. The only junction is the one about 100yds from the motorway roundabout at J40.
If this camera site is about safety then I have a good chance of winning the Eurovision song contest.

It's just a shame the actual number of deaths are rising.

That statement made me laugh. If some of these people had brains they would be dangerous

That sort of statement "I'm absolutely sure I'm right and it's perfect" is the kind of thing said by people who never think about things.

"Regression to the mean" is the fact, here. If a particular stretch of road has a sudden increase in accidents one year, then chances are this is a blip and the next year's figures will go down regardless of measures being taken (or not). The scamerati have been hijacking this one for years!

Oh yes they do...... and they are dangerous. Low cunning certainly. Since the national Scumera conspiracy has directed these partnerships to spend at least 5% of their ill gotten gains on propaganda I think exercises like this where the spin has been carefully constructed beforehand do have an effect with the unthinking majority of the public.
People are happy to be duped by the blandly reassuring and positive untruths since thinking and researchning things for oneself is rather tedious
Sent an Email to The Yorkshire Evening Post Journalist responsible for the acticles about these idiots already. Reads,
Hello Chris,
Having read the utter rubbish you and the so called " West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership" are publishing in the Evening Post I would like to point out some problems about what that organisation called "speeding" and the figure produced to support the ever increasing burden on drivers. Only 5% of accidents are caused by drivers solely driving over the speed limit. Another 2% can be added by drivers driving at excessive speed for the conditions, or if you prefer still within the Speed limit. Hence using the same "flawed" maths that has been used in you report only 0.25% of deaths on the roads are caused by any sort of "excessive speeding"! On the other hand the lack of Traffic Police actually looking out for and punishing "bad" driving has gone down. This combined with the "wrong" emphasis on Speed rather than road safety has lead to an increase in road users being killed. All since the introduction of "Safety Partnerships" whose "expertise" in road safety appears limited to collecting fines off otherwise safe drivers. They also act in a high handed and arrogant manner. I am STILL waiting for figures from the "safety Partnership" to justify the Cameras on the A65 between Horsforth and Yeadon. This makes me wonder if the figures justifying the GATSO and TRUVLEO units exist for this stretch of road at all. My pointing out that one of the Cameras was incorrectly sited was met with a patronising reply. I note that 3 months after I pointed it out, the Camera was removed. I would also direct you to another report which tested the Laser devices used by the WYSP. These appear to be inaccurate and in some cases by a considerable margin. The link to the report is here: www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/southwest/series7/speed-cameras.shtml
Perhaps a little more research and actual investigation is required rather than the mindless acceptance of the point of view of an organisation that has its own interest's at heart would produce more balanced reports and actually help us all make the roads a safer place.

I rather like this one.

OK, I know it's from a USA safety pressure group but after reading the spiel, scroll down to "Talking Points" and read the first sentance.
Q. What do you suppose is their real concern?
Guess it's not hard to see who's pulling their strings eh?
