Seen them online for peanuts, but would prefer to give my pennies to someone on PH (while still being budget conscious of course).

Want a ltd company (one in the same name just dissolved), but I'll be losing the 'ltd' as part of the name (as a community thing). No immediate plans to use, so would sit dormant until needed. One director (me) for the time being, this would likely change when needed.

Or any recommendations?

I'm probably a bit simple, but the formation I'm after (limited by guarantee) is post only and looks like it's £40. Seems many third parties (even in the desired style) offer the service online and for less than this. I'm suitably lazy.

Why do you want a co limited by guarantee rather than shares?

It's something that will likely end up as a charity, for now I just wanted the name (without 'ltd' as part of the name itself).

You might want a quick chat with a specialist charity lawyer first if you have not already.

While limited by guarantee is a common form of constitution for a charity, there are other options that may be more appropriate.

I have also seen small charities DIY constitutional set up or changes and a complete mess resulted.

Have you had a good read through regulator guidance like this?

It's a way off happening so in the ended I opted for registering 'just' a limited company. If and when something else happens we'll adopt suitable articles and structure and use section 60 to drop the 'limited'. Charity Commission don't give any personalised pre-registration advice these days, but Companies House have been really helpful. Dropping the limited wouldn't be viewed as a name change when presented with the correct structure. I've run a small charity previously and appreciate the work involved (the infrastructure for which is miles off happening here). We already have charitable objectives, but 100% of our revenue is from trading so it's run as a social enterprise (no one gets paid).

Really I just spotted the name I wanted being dissolved - treating it like a domain name not being renewed and thought I'd nab it for future use.
