Obviously we're all accustomed to buying products online. But are we in the habit of buying services?

By selling services the obvious one is the like of SEO where most SEO sites will have options to buy monthly package 1/2/3 etc. Are these pages just an invitation to buy in the hope the odd one will go for it, or are they regularly converting?

A company in England does something very similar to us (marketing for small businesses) and appears to sell it online in this way, click to join, live chat etc. I've seen some evidence to suggest they're doing very well but without knowing the precise nature of their sales process it's difficult to estimate numbers generated online. One of the biggest players I've spoken to claims to convert through their site (billboards)- are we missing a trick?

In an ideal world I want to take sales guys out the equation, or at least the traditional call, email, meeting process. Surely tech will render this redundant soon anyway? Or am I in dreamland?

you might take sales guys out of the equation, but you still need a sales process of some sort - and online starts with a far less targeted audience, meaning there is a greater need for the sales funnel concept - how do you plan to do that without people (definitely possible - not necessarily cheaper!)
