Saw a delivery guy on a pushbike with a huge box on his back, done a bit of googling. Pretty decent app, but the delivery range is quite close to the restaurants it collects from. Riders are 'freelance' so, self employed, but are wearing a uniform. Disguised employment. It would appear a new company set up by, you guessed it, someone who works in the city, no doubt his mates rustled up some funny money from a state owned bank.
Same business model as uber, aggressively recruit people into it, paying good wages at the start, get the delivery drivers/cyclists hooked, and then reduce the wages.
They are absolutely everywhere these days. I went to a Vietnamese restaurant a few days ago, and a deliveroo guy turned up every 5 mins to pick up an order.
Personally I don't see what's wrong with it. Offers flexible working hours to people to work/make money as they please. Obviously this won't be so attractive when they cut pay, but then people can choose if they still want to work for deliveroo or not.
'funny money'? - Nope, just private equity investment from a fair few big-hitting tech funding guys. What's funny about that? It's a great business idea, marketed well, and seems to be thriving.
The only thing I wish they would change is the drivers congregating in big groups and blocking pavements.

Signed up the GF's little brother a few weeks ago to pay his new cbr 125 off and he seems to be enjoying it whilst making pocket money (hes 18). Massive growth and tons of cash to play with
If you look at the funding they have they will need to do about 14k deliveries a day in the UK to break even.
Have a look at jinnapp, they are hitting a 60 mill turnover and are giving postmates something to think about..

The home page annoys me beyond reason.

He only takes 4 chips out of the box and she only takes 2. WTF was the point?!
