Male language - just that.
Female language - "I am saying this to test you, if you don't get anything you are in the garage for 2 weeks"......Mind you that can be a bonus.
I am in the doghouse for buying a plant instead of flowers......well....plants don't die, flowers do, what a waste of money.

Then all these women are bloody stupid and need a wake up call. Men are not psychic ffs!
Tell the mother, wife, girlfriend etc that if they want something, to tell you straight as you will do exactly what they say in future. Even go to the point of writing it down to prove to them how dippy they are being. Jees...
And yes it is commercial nonsense. But if you do believe that then you must remember to do little things for eachother at other times - this is called 'having a good relationship' (This goes for women too BTW 
)

Welcome to the world of being married. It's a strange world where rules and regulations are "flexible at best" and "extraordinary at worst".
My advice is:
Always assume the worst.
Never forget an anniversary or birthday.
Look very disappointed if the missus forgets one (a taste of their own medicine).

I understand the intentions behind your sentiment are good but I suspect these women think about this stuff every day. As a result, ramming it down their throats by corporations is perhaps not what they need. I would have thought an artificial forcing of thinking about being a mother would be extremely painful to these poor women.
It does go back to my earlier comment that kindness and thoughtfulness to those you love (and indeed other people in general) should be an all year round thing, not something you should be reminded/expected to do so a business can make money from your artificially created guilty feelings.
Opt out of this part of the rat race and I suspect you will feel better.

exactly what I thought when I read john75's post
It's all too commercial for me. I think the whole Valentine, Mother's, Father's, Grandparent's (?) Day thing is over rated. So you show someone you care on only one day of the year?. Does that mean that you can be a complete git for the other 364.25?. Random acts of kindness are the way to go.
I really feel for some of you guys. I have been married to Steve_T long enough to realise that he is not a mind reader. If I want something I will ask. Not sit and wait for him to figure it out (I haven't the time!).
The old chestnut of "I shouldn't have to ask, you should know what I want" is just stupid.
