Went and did a 1000km audax
Discussion
Now I know I don't post much on here, but on the basis that a few of you appreciated my last video I thought i'd post up my latest video of a 1000km audax "Mille Pennines".
So the format is 75 hours to complete 1000km, and the small matter of 13000m (yes meters not foot) of climbing.
This means a 13kph average speed is required at minimum, and obviously this needs to be faster as soon as you stop for a break, let alone if you want to sleep (75 hours remember).
I planned to ride fast enough to be able to sleep for 3 hours on each of the three nights, as the route centres on a 'mid-point' each night, at an 'outdoor centre'.
I ended up finishing, with a pretty bad knee and achillies, which I was chuffed with seeing as only 38 riders completed the ride, out of 90 starters. Here are the vids:

Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qhs6obwH0-8

What a brilliant effort, well done you. It really is a different sort of pain isn't it. Until recently I never 'got' the endurance thing, most of my life has been spent racing. However a few weeks ago I did my first Everesting challenge and then a Hells 500 High Rouleurs Society ride. That was 450km and 10,000m of climbing. But 1,000km, wow.So the format is 75 hours to complete 1000km, and the small matter of 13000m (yes meters not foot) of climbing.

Thanks, it was an everesting challenge which I failed a year or 2 ago which taught me lots about self motivation and not giving up. I did 5000m that time and threw in the towel - really disappointed at the time, and i've not not tried again since. Will join you in the hells 500 some time in the future i'm surebert11 said:
