K Series Running Temps?
Discussion
I have a K Series R500 and I'm getting conflicting info on running water temperatures. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the temp should be for normal road driving, ie, pottering about because you can't thrash it on the road?
Car currently runs at 70 - 75C on the road but might get up to 80C on a track day.

Oil temp is about 70C on the road and I have seen it go as high as 90C on a hot trackday. Interestingly the car is running without a thermostat and the ECU kicks the fan in at 76C. Despite the lack of thermostat the water seems to warm up relatively quickly.
ForzaGilles - Thanks for the link to the Minister stuff, very useful, I'd not seen that before. The Minister stuff seems to indicate that 75C is about right but others seem to have a different view and recommend 80 - 90C. I'm struggling to find a definitive answer.....

I don't know the right answer (although I had previously read the Minister technical spec sheet), but I know what mine runs at. Mid seventies when moving along at a decent pace, with the oil temp lagging a few degrees behind. It does creep up to around 85 when sat in traffic. Someone on blatchat mentioned that on the R500Ks the ECU will start to retard the timing when water temps hit 86 degrees.ForzaGilles - Thanks for the link to the Minister stuff, very useful, I'd not seen that before. Haven't had the chance to exercise her on a warm track day yet unfortunately.
There's no definitive answer becasue as you have seen it varies with load etc. 75 is fine. Not heard of anything that retards ignition above 85 and would be VERY surprised if this were the case in a race/track oriented car that can run reliably all the way to 100C and beyond. It's a pressure system after all, and that's for a reason.
