Has anybody had this done yet?

I had a cunningly worded invitation to arrange for my 2012 2.0l Golf to have the software update performed, so I used the online system to book an appointment at my local dealer.

Predictably, I received a phone call a day or so later apologising for "an error with the booking system" which meant that we would need to rearrange the appointment at a later date. As the 2.0l tDi just requires a software update, which allegedly takes an hour or so, I asked for a courtesy car on the basis that for once I expect to get something for nothing out of VW, and I'm taking the car in on Tuesday.

Has anybody else had the software update done, and has it made any noticeable difference?

Not much help to you but I am personally waiting until a few people have had it done. So far I have read one report of a noisy engine and other oddities with emission type indicators - gear change light.

On balance I've also read someone who noticed no difference after having it done!

By way of an update, I duly took the car to Peter Cooper in Hedge End Southampton for the remap.

Mine is a Golf 2.0 Bluemotion, with the manual box.

My initial impression following the remap is that the engine seems to make more noise and lacks refinement at, and just above idle. Otherwise, there's no discernible difference and performance and fuel consumption seem unaltered.

My brother-in-law has a 2.0 Tiguan, with an automatic gearbox, and he feels that the engine has become less refined at idle, and "hunts" when pulling away. This has also been noted on the Tiguan forum (who knew?) and he's complained to VW.

I'm tempted to complain, and see what VW's response is.

My fiancées 2012 1.2 TDI Polo Match was done yesterday. It's now slower in first gear and somewhat louder at low speeds and in just less refined. Also we always get 60+ mpg on the commute, today was a normal commute and it did 53 mpg. Not happy!

Can't see why you would get it done.

The problem is that they will usually automatically do the update if it's been released and they have the car in for anything else. The dealers will be HSO audited, and they can be penalised for missing recal updates. Anyone going to a dealer should be aware of this and if they don't want their car updated, insist that it isn't.

Not much useful input I know but surely if you buy a TDI you expect it to be noisy at tickover?

I couldn't tell you if mine was noisier today than it was yesterday, I do know its louder now then when it was delivered with 7 miles on the clock, maybe a complaint to Audi to see why rolleyes
