Cautious buyer....
Discussion
I am looking at buying a 991 and/or 981 Boxster S and will be buying an OPC car. The thing is I bought a 911 in 2007 after prices had been really strong for ages, then it all went wrong in 2008 and as a result I lost over 25k in 18months.
Considering the fragile state the country/economy appears to be in (hugely down to a negative media rather than working issues) I am hesitant to purchase until I can see what is happening. I love Porsche but the prices have been over inflated for a while now and don't want to get stung again.
Anyone else considering buying a Porsche but unwilling to due to the artificially high?

Depending what you are buying.
997/1 Turbos and c2s look reasonable, but still lose lots. E.g. 991 turbo s goes from £150k to around £100k trade in three years - final payment is about £86k on a new one after two years!
Anything with limited numbers will hold its value or be silly money when investors turn towards it, and lose when the market goes down.
For me it's a dream car, sensory overload and life style choice, which I can use on a daily basis but will lose significant amounts of money ... so go into with your eyes open.

Buying from OPC is great service and good peace of mind but will cost you £10-20k the day you drive off the forecourt across those two cars.
Has to be at least 10% of the value of the two cars as a bid / offer spread.
Add in a years depreciation and you would be £25k after 12 months again??

Vanilla cars like the 981 S Boxster and to a slightly lesser extent the 991 S will cost you in depreciation ....especially the newer cars. Box clever and seek out the rarer and more driver involving rarer GTS models which will hold their value much better not least because they are last of the line normally aspirated. 'Manuel' versions will be particularly desirable as confirmed by the 997 GTS crazy £70k recent highs paid by those chasing a hint of nostalgia...

A brand new 991 turbo will of course but a 99£ turbo won't as they are already well down the depreciation curve, had my 2008 997 turbo for 3 years now and its worth a bit more than I paid.997/1 Turbos and c2s look reasonable, but still lose lots. OP - if you want to avoid depreciation don't buy new and don't buy from an OPC, buy one two years old privately with a year of warranty left
