Huracan Spyder-Why so many for sale so soon?
Discussion
Already there are now 16 Spyders for sale between PH and Autotrader after just a month or two of deliveries. They all seem to be at retailers which are probably/possibly SOR basis.
Do you think they are all speculators/flippers looking for a quick profit.?
Are people worried about possible impact of Brexit and trying to get out quick?
Is there enough demand to soak up this volume of cars so quickly?
What long term impact is this likely to have on future Spyder values?
Do potential buyers really exist that want to avoid a supposed 18month waiting list, surely any serious buyer has already signed up for a car to their exact spec?
It reminds of the Huracan coupe market when approx 40 cars went up for sale very quickly and many appear to be hanging around for ages ever since.
Would be interested in any thoughts or insights, as I will be looking for a Spyder within the next 12 months or so and wonder where the market is heading.
And yes I guess this is probably another 'what's the depreciation on this car' thread...however, there are some very experienced and knowledgable contributors that may be able to offer guidance on when best to spend that hard earned cash wisely. Thanks in anticipation...

With flipping a new model giving an opportunity to turn a quick profit, I wander if dealers are buying the cars outright rather than hoping on a sor being available... hence on immediate sale... best time to sell a spyder is right now, and if u want one right now, which is how celebs behave, you'll have one...
Suspect a high degree of speculators ordered spyders when Ferrari and Lambo prices were going crazy and are now 5h1tt1ng themselves.
Best time to sell a convertible is now and by October premiums will have well and truely disappeared.
Similar to the coupe there are too many cars for the marketplace IMHO and I expect prices to fall quite quickly when the newness and I want to be first to have one brigade has sailed.
Sit tight and in 12 to 24 months time you will save a fortune and still possibly pick up a delivery mileage car if the coupe is anything to go buy.
Buy now at a premium and you will do £50k in the first year of ownership so only for those with big pockets and certainly not me

Thanks for the input so far and very much as I thought. I'm sure there are some owners who were advised to buy the coupe in order advance them up the Spyder list and they are no doubt taking a big hit on the coupe and seeing the Spyder values impacted by speculators. Lamborghini don't seem to have mechanism for this, selling everything they can according to latest sales figures with the U.K. third largest market. However there is a case for brand management too, as Ferrari seem to do much better.
Anyway I will definitely hold at the moment, I bought my Superleggera II at three months old, with 2.5k, miles at exactly £40k less than the list price. Still lost a shed load when I sold it later on though...so it's an expensive hobby I just want to extract best value. Cheers.

If you are not desperate to buy, just wait and see - then you'll know!
When planning to buy or sell expensive cars, I tend to take screenshots of what's for sale on here, and then compare over time. It's then clear which cars are sitting around, and if the if prices are moving or not.
The funny thing over the last year or two is that some cars have been going up in asking price even when they are not selling...but that's about to come to an end, IMO.

Ha, sadly I have a spreadsheet already set up on my phone for the Spyders, that's how I counted to 16. I ran one for the coupe for quite a while but got bored with it as so little was moving for ages. You're right in that patience is the key but I don't want to wait forever of course! I really like the work that Voicey on here has done with the 430, you can decide at which point you want to jump onto the curve, it's great info to help with buying at the right point for you.
Prices for most cars seem to be coming down slowly as supply on the market increases steadily. McLarens, 70's 911s, all the GT Porsches, BMW "modern classics" (E46 CSL, E30 M3) etc.
Cars that were rare as hens teeth and only sold privately in 2013-2014 are now broadly available on the market in any colour you'd like.
I had plans to buy a new toy in the next few weeks but graphs like this worry me more than a bit.

Yes - and my understanding is that these indices only reflect sales prices, which is obviously more robust, but is skewed towards the good examples that have sold recently, rather than the 'average' which sold in 2014 etc. So the 'average' price has really fallen more. It also doesn't take account of build up of unsold stock, or the auction "passes". (AFAIK)Cars that were rare as hens teeth and only sold privately in 2013-2014 are now broadly available on the market in any colour you'd like.

I have had mine for 6 weeks or so and I am sure I could of flipped it for a extra 30k if I wanted.
Must say its a great car and whilst its the exact same spec I had on the previous coupe (minus the hood!) it feels different for some reason.
I personally think this is what others are doing and asking the premium for the privilege of a early car.
It will be interesting to see how long these kind of premiums are holding for prior to the asking creeping down and down.
