I like the banter and rough and tumble here.

I know it can at times get out of hand but in general the calling a spade a spade attitude keeps most of us on the level. If someone is talking bks, you can feel free to say it.

I've noticed over the last few months that I've caused upset on other forums by accident by replying to someone negatively in a PH manner. A reply like, "You're talking st mate" which would go unnoticed here gets folks upset elsewhere.

Yesterday one of those "know all" types took me to task on one forum. I'd said something that anyone here would have seen as tongue in cheek, but he took me literally. Imagine a whiney adenoidal voice..."No you are wrong, this is not included in a So and so, and I think you will find that...." My initial response was something like "FFS it was a joke you humourless tt" I thought about it then deleted it responding with with the much weaker "Riiiight" I feel sure that because he is a Mr Logic type character that he won't get that response instead assuming I defer to his knowledge but for some reason misspelt "Right"

So has PH made you more aggressive more rude to people on line?

Feel free to tell me to go fk myself and ps off to fking Mumsnet you wet steak of piss.

It's notoriously difficult to convey humour or emotion electronically hence if you type something that looks like a joke or banter to you may come across as harsh or serious on the other end.

It's all relative. There are many forums that compared to PH are all pipe and slippers. Equally there are some which compared to PH are a total vipers nest.

It's easy if swapping from place to place to forget where you are and either put your foot in it, or be surprised at a snippy response. I upset one bloke over on Briskoda, but discussing it afterwards on PM he admitted he'd had the same problem after a really heated discussion on a woodworking forum going into Briskoda again and being a bit sharp. It happens.

Part of the problem is the immediacy of the exchange. Certainly work wise I've often been thankful that after getting a sharply worded bhmail, usually from the USA, it's too easy to snap back. Found it best to sleep on it and produce a much more effective and considered response the next day.

Thankfully only use PH, not enough time to go elsewhere what with work, etc.

It's no different to many other places on the 'net.

The anonymity give people more bravery.

On the whole it doesn't matter. It's banter and mainly on subjects that aren't really important.

I have however seen people be downright horrid on here about very important and personal subjects simply because they can.

In real life it would get them beaten senseless.

I suffered in this way personally. Even now if I think about it, it fills me with rage.

Whether it makes reasonable people horrid or just gives horrid people the bravery to be themselves I don't know.

Agreed, this is where familiarity can sometimes help.

Smilies can help.

PH is a reasonably balanced forum in my view. One other I frequent have a couple of rooms that can be brutal and not for the faint hearted or thin skinned.

That is a far scarier place than here, it would make even the most hardened PH'er cry.

This is also my experience, I recommended someone to come to PH. He is a good man, ex racer, helps few others out, lot of knowledge. He made a mistake of giving someone advice on money, let it slip that he had a few quid and that there were issues in his family and people tore into him, without having the facts. He was just trying to be helpful, he made the mistake of telling too much.

When he bit back he got banned.

I doubt that using PH would alter anyone's general demeanour in any way when it comes to posting on other sites.

Anyhow, what the fk's it to do with you? I fart in your general direction, you big pile of poop...
