Starting to think about a project and I'm thinking of buying an old 986 'S' 2000-2002ish and then stripping as much of the weight out as possible, and doing a few mods. Not intending to track it, just use as an occasional road car and something to tinker with. Trouble is I think I'd like something a bit different than the usual blue/silver/black. I think Miami Blue or Rivera Blue might be the answer. I know that asking for 'ball park figure' for a respray is the 'how long is a piece of string' question, but has anyone had it done recently and what sort of money are we talking? Probably look for full glass out job.

Live in Surrey

ps I know I won't get my money back, that's not the point, and yes I'll do the engine and the suspension first!

Thank you in advance.

Blue is such a fashion colour and over done now IMO.

Just wrap it.

Yes agree BUT a Boxster is going to look pretty naff with this scheme in my view.

But then again, if you like it, go for it!

Despite living in Surrey I drive along the A420 from Swindon to Oxford every morning before 0700 and I regularly see a Boxster in Gulf Blue with an orange stripe going the other way; looks good. But as someone else has already done it it's not for me.

Really?

That seems an enormous amount? Or am I way out of date?

He did say that would be a proper job.
Stripping everyting out then spraying rather than masking things up.

Howabout dipping it? Seems to be giving good results, cheaper the wrapping and equally reversible.

Regardless;

Only thinking out loud about what I'd do and before I know it, someone else has emailed me and offered me a car!

Absolutely not, not, the right time, I was only dreaming...

By complete coincidence I happen to be visiting the owners part of the country at the weekend for a party.......

I now have a 986 S sitting on my drive, ready for paint!

Well actually ready for a whole variety of mechanical work work first.

Now, the next question is, whose fitted a home car lift?
