I am lookin to buy a 8 year old 993 in the South east London area. I have found the car i want but would like to have the car Inspected before I part with my hard earned.

Other than the RAC does anyone know a company that could do this for me?

remember, if it is under 10yrs old your friendly neighbourhood OPC will do an inspection for £200 - and if it passes they will issue a warranty for a further £725 - might be worth considering for your first year of ownership.

Peter Morgan inspected my car, very polite and professional manner and a good, detailed written report with lots of digi pics of what he finds.

I had a car inspected by one of the Inspection companies as advertised on Autotrader's site. (The one in the middle of the three in case you are interested).

They were quite helpful on the phone, and the guy who done the inspection phoned me up and was very detailed in his description of how bad the car in question was. But all I ever received was some cr@ppy fax copy of three sheets of paper which basically had a tick sheet of basic areas of the car to be checked.

To be honest this has reminded me to chase up for a part refund as I dont think its really acceptable.

However, I would recommend that a car is inspected before purchasing (just by a slightly more reputable company). I guess these guys probably saved me several thousand pounds in repairs/restoration bills despite the lack of a full report.

www.sportscarguides.com provides a national pre purchase inspection and makes all the arrangements for £25. They then use a suitable local specialist, usually £125 plus vat.
The chap there has a Porsche and is very helpful.

"ditto" Peter Morgan. He will give you a phone report soon as he has finished. I met him at the vendors as he was doing the inspection so he talked me through everything. Thorough written report with lots of pictures emailed within 24hours with a hard copy and HPI documentation within a few days. He also went through previous bills and service history with a fine tooth comb.

Been on holiday for a week. I am going with Peter Morgan, talked to him on the phone briefly and he sounded genuine. Let you know how it goes
