Hi Guys

Car has been stood for a while with a full tank of fuel
started up few times. After a discussion i had was told Petrol degrades i.e Loss of Octane.
There are products which say they stabilise your fuel,
and Boost the Octane level.
The reason i ask is thought i would go for a blast but for the first few miles ran a bit rough, stopped for fuel mile later back on song happy to say.
Has anyone tried a Octane Boost and if so did you notice any difference.

Most octane boosters are junk. Just buy some race fuel and mix with your normal fuel to get the desired octane rating.

I use this in the race car and can highly recommend it. Safe for cats as well (not the 4 legged variety!)

The supplier of Cool Blue racing gasoline is on 01929 551557. Deliveries nationwide, it's not cheap but blending makes the cost per litre more OK.

How much do you get in the bottle, i see it treats "up to " 400l but also talks about 15ml per l

Its not chep but look like a good product, and i could do with some knock protection (running 18psi!!)

Not got the bottle to hand, but would guess it holds approx 250 - 300 ml.

I am running similar boost levels to yourself and add 4-5 capfuls of Nitrous Formula to a 20 litre jerry can of Optimax. The engine bay gets extremely hot and I have not suffered any detonation issues.

Best bet is to experiment with the amount you add and see what works for you.

Hey Slim I forgot you were at 18psi

Can you tell me how many miles you've done at that boost now? IIRC you are on standard injectors and Promax chips.

I've been at 15psi for 20k miles and umpteen trackdays now and I'm thinking of going 55lb injectors this year and turning my Guru chip up to match at 18psi. It should be worth 20-30bhp but its really in preparation for further upgrades at a later date.

To be honest i bottled it on running at 18psi, and was probably 16psi or there abouts last year. I had a dyno run and the car was showning 10.5 A/F so was runnig a tad rich but the boost was only showing 14psi on the dyno but 17psi on my gauge. So decided to leave it at that till i got better dyno run. This will be happening some time early spring. I want to turn the boost up till i reach about 12:1 A/F and leave it at that.

On the dyno run the car was pulling 310bhp and 350lbft. So to be honest i dont really need much more torque, but this was before i fitted the tial, so i am execting the torque to be similar but the peak power to creap up to 330-340bhp, i.e. hold the boost and the torque higher up the rev range.

Still got to get the car back on the road, so still about 1 month away before it goes back on the dyno.

I was considering the 55lb injectors myself, more for longevity than outright power.

At the end of the day as long as the A/F is ok then that the main thing, and if i can achieve that with standard injectors then will be happy with that.

I think i will definatly invest in a few bottles of NF and add 100ml to each tank just for some limited knock protection. No question the stuff seems to get a very good write up.
