I suspect that's going to be a fairly one sided discussion here - assume you are going to post it in the Aston forum too?

So are you just buying the GT8 to flip it or serious about keeping and driving it?

If its the former then you have your answer, if its the latter then you also have your answer! wink

I love Porsche, having a GT3, but I'd get the GT8 without a second thought

I'm not keen on the GT8's looks with all the bodykit stuff, but otherwise it seems nuts so i'd drop the GT4 without hesitation.

Agree - but he who is without sin cast the first stone - let's be consistent and not definitively pronounce on any car's driving characteristics unless driven. It's fair enough to comment on the aesthetics - you don't need to drive a car to have a view on its looks.

GT4s have become really common where I live but a GT8 would definitely turn my head.

I don't know, to me, Aston Martins always feel dated, even the new ones!

For spirited driving, I suspect that the GT4 will be the better car. For noise and drama, the GT8, no question.
So it depends on your priorities. In the short term I would try to hang on to both for a few months if possible, borrowing/remortgaging if necessary. The decision should then become clear.

I just had to remind myself about the specs of the GT8 - if it was me. i would not hesitate to pick the aston. At 1.5 tonnes it is no lightweight, but I suspect with manual transmission, passive dampers and a V8 that makes max power somehwere in the 7000rpm range it will be awesome to drive. Could actually be the first newish aston I would really like to have a go in ( that hypercar from a few years back excluded)
I doubt a non-RS Porsche (and possibly any (newish) Porsche bar the likes of a CGT) can compete for specialness

Well it's twice the price of the GT4 - GT3 RS money - so it would need to be very good.

The GT8 for me based on what I've been reading about them. It's the bd love child of the mature, much loved Aston with a loony wannabe racer. What's not to like? It does look like a load of fun and something very special. I know the GT4 is excellent, but the GT8 looks like it has real presence (if that's your bag). It would make me smile every time I looked in the garage.

Having said that, I thought the same when I read the reviews and looked at the pricing. From memory isn't it a lot more cash than the GT4?

The GT8 base price is £165k but with aero and a reasonable spec price is more like £200-210k. Strictly 150 worldwide of which only around 40 in the UK. So almost 3x the price of a GT4 but equally its more than 10x rarer!

I felt the same until I took the V12S Manual out for a drive the other week. The car looks stunning IMO in China grey and that V12 engine is something else. New dash and sat nav for 2017 models that just about keeps it relevant. Dog leg gearbox will take some getting used to and the car has a some under steer until you use the throttle and then it's all oversteer.

My GT4 has been in the OPC having its engine stripped for the last 3 weeks so maybe when I get it back I'll stop lusting after the Vantage - I need to as I'm whilst it's not a GT8 in price its still the thick end of £160k spec'd with a few toys.

Sorry to have hijacked the GT8 thread but it is an AMV!

GT8 every time.

As good a car I'm sure it is, for me, the GT4 wouldn't stand a chance compared with the Aston.

Well I am in the same position my Gt 4 will have to go towards the end of this year or early next, as I am getting a GT8 I do love the GT4 but the GT8 was too good to not to say no on.

Thanks all. Adam it seems pretty one sided but perhaps not on the side that you thought it would have been! If flipping was the aim the GT4 would have gone 9 months ago when it arrived and i'd have somebody lined up for the GT8 by the end of the summer. However it is not. The GT8 was ordered as i didn't get a 911R. On placing my deposit i thought it would cost me circa 180-190k which would have meant that i would have been just about been able to keep both. As it turns out AM have taken a leaf our of the Porsche book and charge for pretty much everything so the price now sits at a eye watering £235k.

At 3 times the cost of my GT4 i wonder if it is worth it. Having just covered 2000 miles in the GT4 it seems to get better and better as it loosens up. Both cars have similar performance figures and as correctly stated ideally i would like to drive both back to back before i made my decision. Sadly this is unlikely to happen as i need to sell the GT4 to fund the GT8. Therefore the decision will have to made on the look, rarity , amazing sound and the fact that this will be last NA V8 built by Aston. I'd agree Astons do seem to feel a bit dated but the GT8/GT12 do look very special and modern with the CF interiors.

It looks like the Aston it is then! For the moment anyway.confused
